Read this book and enjoy a great telling of times that used to be
P.S. This book ended up bringing my Mom and I closer as we have more to talk about so thank you VERY MUCH!
Woven into this environment like the thread in a fragile garment are the sages: a small clique of seemingly unrelated people with heightened senses and knowledge, whose existence in the world is essential to its ultimate survival. Someone is murdering these gifted people one by one, and as less and less sages remain on Ose, the world threatens to literally unravel before their very eyes. Recently orphaned Erin, herself the youngest of the sages and trying to quickly come to terms with her emerging powers, sets out disguised as a boy in an ever-moving guild caravan to get to the bottom of things. Along with her new human travel companions on the train, with whom she is growing ever closer, she also discovers she can communicate with animals, and so she is secretly joined on the road by a millenium falcon, a wise old owl, and cute little Tempo, a skunk that is on a search himself to find a mate in these confusing and dangerous times.
This book would be perfect to be read aloud to children at bedtime, or silently in a park surrounded by the wonderful natural world that Ose captures so well. The characters are immediately likeable, drawing you into the story so that the pages turn rapidly as you hurry onwards to ensure that they all escape each danger safe and sound. I look forward to the rest of the series, and I have a feeling that my little cousins are looking forward as well!
