Disclaimer: I only made it to 53% of the book before finally deciding to toss it like old bathwater. And that's in spite of the fact that I specifically wanted to read a New Adult romance and even expected a bit of the clichés.
I guess had this book cost say, $.99 instead of $3.99 I might have been more forgiving with the review, but paying four bucks for a totally cookie cutter, dull story with an annoying, self centered, head up her butt heroine really pushed me over the edge. Now that I've vented, allow me to explain:
This whole story, which is written in first person and alternates between the hero and heroines PoV is based on the completely unrealistic premise that a goodie too-shoe went to college, lost her virginity to one lacrosse player while drunk and that somehow the ENTIRE university went on a rampage against her to label her a slut. Please. Two semesters later she is still "living in seclusion" and "avoiding campus digs" because EVERYONE looks at her dirty and whispers mean things when she's around.
As if that wasn't blown out of proportion enough, she is now too traumatized (and acts like a rape victim) to properly date this incredibly smart, hot "bad boy with a heart of gold and the body of a god" that for some unexplained reason decides she's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
The heroine then proceeds to completely ruin any potentially romantic or sexually charged scenes with her whining and self centeredness. God! I just hate it when a stupid heroine completely ruins the story! Why would anyone write a book with a leading character you can't even stand?!

To quote Pedagonia: had this book cost say, $.99 instead of $3.99 I might have been more forgiving with the review, but paying four bucks for a totally cookie cutter, dull story with an annoying, self centered, head up her butt heroine really pushed me over the edge. End Quote...

I was so disappointed in this book that I started reading other books while reading this one. But I will say, that I am not a quitter so I tortured myself to finish this story. Well, I will say; read at your own risk. The storyline had potential it just came out dull and boring. The heat factor in this could have been better if the story was better. Sorry I didn't discuss AM or Bo the characters in this story because they are forgettable.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, I want to thank Jen Frederick for even allowing me to review the book. I know I was past the cut off point for reviewers but she still sent me a copy anyway.

I really liked this book. I enjoyed having insight into Bo's mind and character and I truly believe Jen was intentional about the way she crafted her story. I struggled with the setting and circumstances surrounding the story. Maybe it's my personality, maybe it's that I'm fresh out of college - a college that would never condone or foster such outrageous rumors...I don't know what it is but the Typhoid Mary thing really rubbed me the wrong way. Not just the fact that the characters blatantly bullied a girl over rumors but the fact that the girl in question, the main character, was so weak that she didn't confront the situation head on the minute she was aware of it.

Like I said, this could just be a personal reaction on my part but I'm the sort of person that faces things head on and will stand up for my rights unashamedly. I wanted to reach into the story several times and slap this girl for how she handled things. In many ways, I couldn't really see why Bo was attracted to her. Some of their demons seemed manufactured and regardless of them, I felt like he was incredibly patient with her despite her constant resisting and caving.

I loved Ellie and Ryan's side story. I would love to read a story that involves Finn. I was, however, disturbed by the cavalier way marriage and infidelity was addressed in the novel. Not once did I read of a confrontation between AM and her mom about the fact that her mom was a mistress and allowed herself to be used that way.

I read this after reading Undeclared - it wasn't as good and (spoiler) although it seemed like Bo was warming up to Grace in Undeclared I didn't get that impression in Unspoken. The book felt rushed and the interactions and relationships felt a little forced

What a great book! I loved all of the characters, the author did an excellent job of giving them each their own voice. This story started on the same vein as a lot I have read lately, college guy that gets around falls for college girl (with secrets of her own). This story stood out from the rest for several reasons: I LOVED the dual point of view, loved that the story steadily moved forward, in both of their "voices". I freaking really loved Bo's protective, honest, plain realness he showed AnnMarie and those who meant the most to him. AM was wounded and hiding and she let Bo in and I was so PROUD of her for taking a chance. I loved their smart ass banter and their ability to share themselves with each other, share secrets that they were basically afraid of. And I loved how smart they both were, that to me is so sexy. And their sex life, woo hoo yes please! I loved that this book is standalone...no cliffhanger for once, however it's part of a series which follow characters in the book. I imagine there will be a next book focusing on some secondary characters, I HOPE so. Grey sounded interesting, and Finn as well. I will be interested in seeing where the author goes next. Now I have to go back and read Noahs story because Ms. Frederick just showed me something I really liked. And yes, I over used love in this review, but I am not easy on my reviews, I don't give my stars freely, and it takes a lot to get a 4 star from me, but this one totally deserved it!
