"Stunning and eye-opening.

I couldn't put this book down. Whether you're a college student or Fortune 500 CEO, this novel is filled with brilliantly taught new stuff about interviewing in today's ultracompetitive job market. I only wish I read this when I was 20!" -- Jeff Andrews, Vice President of IPC Technologies

Some ideas are based on deceit - suicide call. It can be even illegal in some way !!!

* BTW, you can actually get lots of info about the job and what kind of person they are looking for just from the job description itself.

Shallow language.

In the end of the book you are suggested to buy CD's and take a course - so obvious!

Many of the "secrets" in the book you can actually hear in colleges.

Misleading title! The book is very general with very simple ideas that could be written in a few short chapters.

The information provided about the techniques is vague. Very general and vague.

No need to study? Well, reading this book is study, going to college, MBA, school is study!... MBA can be very helpful to someone and not so helpful for someone else.

This book is kind of teaching you to be someone else and pretend.

There are much better books out there for the money!

I'm a computer professional with nearly a decade of experience. Even though this book seems focused on a younger audience, it helped me land a 10k raise by using a few of the psychological techniques described within it.

Basically, I reminded my employer of my value to the market, my value to the company and introduced the suspicion that I was looking elsewhere.

A few recruiters had called the main office asking for my contact information. I replied back to the admin person and made a side comment/joke about my loyalty to the company. She responded with saying that she thought that she should mention my loyalty to the owners.

We had just gotten off a very successful project, and I sent an email to the owners asking if they'd write a recommendation for me on LinkedIn. I framed the request as wanting to get the recommendation now while the success of the project was fresh in their minds. Each one replied something like, "Woah! You aren't leaving, are you?"

These events did three things: reinforced my scarcity, reminded them of my value to the company and let them consider the possibility of me leaving.

I was then planning to contact the owners and request a raise. However, before I got around to it, they offered me a 10k raise without me even asking for it. No joke.

Oh... the other cool thing about this book is that it reads like a novel, not like a manual. So that made it pretty easy to read and internalize the information.

This has been long overdue. About a year ago, I was at despair to find that no company small or large wanted to hire me almost 6 months after graduation. I began to realize that I was one of the thousands of unemployed grads with no specialty. So, I began to look for every resource that helped to prove my worthiness to future employers. Landon was the only individual who could! He made me realize three things about myself:

1)My value is more than $23,000. One of the chapters in his book is about the cost of hiring and training a new employee which may be viewed as the opportunity cost of hiring the wrong candidate from an employer's standpoint. Soon, I realized my own worth and started dressing and behaving like I was worth $23,000

2)It is just as important for me to interview the employer as it is for them to interview me. In several scenarios the book describes, Landon eloquently interviews the employer with questions that demonstrate his willingness to outperform his future colleagues. Or, become an A-player like he describes it. Much to my surprise, employers explicitly admitted to have been impressed by the questions I was asking.

3)I must negotiate. It's quite simple...you are worthy of what you think you deserve.

Naturally, I found myself happily employed within weeks.I finally became the choser and selected the offer I liked most. You must pick up this book....it's practical yet nothing like what we grew up reading.

Landon takes the mystery out of getting a job, and puts it down in simple English (don't know if it is available in other languages). If you want a career (not just a job), this is your book to get the awesome career that you deserve. You wouldn't be here if you are just trying to get a paycheck. The book is full of great advice to make you stand out above the "Johnny-me-too" applicants. You tell the interviewer right there that you are the competent, go getter, not with words that everybody uses, but with body-confidence. Landon's book shows you how to be more confident and make that lasting impression in the interview (works on the phone too). This book has taken me from no interviews (even after having my resume looked over by a local employment agency) to trying to pick the best career out of five. Follow the instructions, even if you have no idea to why you are doing it, Landon is a mastermind.

I'll say it again, THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!

So there I was, straight out of the Military, full time student, and unemployed. I spent countless days and weeks writing resumes and learning interview techniques that all seemed to come to a dead end. I would spend hours applying for jobs through the internet using the "mass resume" technique, but of course, another dead end. After 6 months without even a phone call from employers, I was obviously doing something wrong and wasn't communicating effectively to the hiring managers through my resume.

I was introduced to "The Unspoken Rules of Getting Hired" when I magically landed on Landon Long's website. At first I was quite skeptical about how effective the book would really be, because of all the bogus information on the internet today, but after a few minutes I decided to purchase the book and give a shot. Not only did I read the book, I was totally motivated by all the information that was provided to the reader. After reading the book, I knew what I was doing wrong with my resume, and my interviewing skills. This book provides detailed information on simple to complex techniques that can be used to get information about the company and the hiring manager, how to realized your body language style and use better body language to communicate to the hiring manager, information on how to improve your interviewing skills and reduce interview anxiety, and even how to negotiate for more salary.

Honestly, this book has really helped me get a lot more phone calls from hiring managers that were actually interested in me, and I became way more confident in my interviewing skills, and the way I approach a job search situation. This book is very helpful, and if your are going through a job search right now and need help, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!
