Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).
And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.
Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.
But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.
Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?

Review
“Touching and complex…Tucker unerringly hits all the high notes of romance—the spark, the emotional depth, the mental and physical struggles—while creating a couple who seem perfectly attuned even when they are in conflict.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)
“A fantastic contemporary romance featuring dysfunction, lies, regrets and illicit transgressions. Set in a small, gossipy Pennsylvania town, with intense and intriguing plot twists and formidably engaging characters, she keeps readers on their toes. But it’s definitely her knight in shining armor and flawed heroine with trust issues, plus an impressive pint-sized costar, who rule every page of this unforgettable story.” (RT Book Reviews)
“Lovely, sexy, and well-written, with a great cast of finely-drawn characters. This is a modern-day Cinderella story that will make you hope again. I enjoyed every page.” (Amy Harmon, New York Times bestselling author )
Praise for Surviving Ice:
“Surviving Ice has it all: suspense, romance, forgiveness, and second chances all rolled into one.” (San Diego Book Review)

Praise for Burying Water:
"Another addictive triumph for the impressively prosaic Tucker." (Globe and Mail)
“Tucker deftly steers the damsel-in-(serious, nearly fatal, possibly mob-related)-distress-rescued-by-a-knight-in-shining armor storyline, making these star-crossed lovers compelling. A sexy romantic, gangster-tinged page-turner.” (Kirkus Reviews on Burying Water)
"Unique, engrossing, and heartbreaking. Burying Water is a mesmerizing read that will keep you captivated until the very last page." (Rachel Van Dyken #1 New York Times bestselling author)

As usual, the author lays the groundwork masterfully, writing both a bit of the past fused with the present so as to understand a little bit more about the life of Catherine Wright. The woman who has been cast as the pariah of her hometown on more than one occasion yet is the wonderfully strong and devoted single mother to her adorable daughter Brenna. Cath's selfless act one foggy night not only changes her entire world but that of Brett Madden, a famous hockey player who can't seem to walk away, when so many others did.
This is such a beautifully written book. Both Cath and Brett captured my attention with their pure intentions and their big hearts. Coming from such different worlds, there is that spark, that wild attraction that was evident right from the start. Yet their romance is taken very slowly, with Cath just wanting her life back while Brett tries to protect her from the media. Saving him from that horrific car crash certainly tied them together forever but it's the awe and the true admiration they have for one another that clearly sets them on the road to love.
Each character is written so very well. I couldn't help but adore each and every one of them. Those who have taken Cath under their wing when her own family basically shunned her, made me laugh and smile often. Whether it was her wonderful boss Lou, her overly enthusiastic yet very loyal friend Misty, the best friend she has in Keith or the devoted uncle that is Jack, this crew kept Cath safe and loved and happy when the rest of her community wanted nothing more than to spit at her feet. But it's her daughter Brenna who manages to steal each and every scene she is in. As precocious as she is adorable, this mini-me of her Mom's kept me smiling. A complete breath of fresh air, I was so impressed with the relationship she has with Cath. I just adored her.
As much as I loved Brett and the way he takes his time with Cath, the way he comes to worship and admire her and want to be her savior, I have to say it was Keith who intrigued me most. He defines loyalty and would do anything for Cath and her daughter. Although I knew he loved her in a way that wasn't reciprocated, I just couldn't help but want to see him gain some happiness. I'm hopeful we hear more from him and from Jack too, for that matter. They clearly have stories to tell and with Jack's apparent lust for Misty, I do believe there are some future book adventures in store.
KA Tucker has written the perfect tale of a small-town girl, the mistakes she makes as a teenager and the proud way she carries herself in the ensuing years, after she reluctantly finds her 15 minutes of fame. Although the pace might be slower than the author is known for, there is still plenty of angst and a whole plethora of drama that will keep you glued to each and every page.
A story that is timeless and full of love, I do hope we hear from Cath and Brett again. There is definitely more that can be told with an ending that still has me craving a bit more closure.
A very solid 4+ stars!

This is a nicely written romance, with good pacing and poignant emotions. Catherine’s character is well developed and her experiences are slowly revealed throughout the book and some of those experiences are a little surprising. Brett is kind, gentle and understanding. For a man raised in the limelight he has a down to earth attitude. His situation is difficult but all he wants to do is protect Catherine to the best of his ability.
I love the relationship Catherine has with her family, it’s fraught and difficult and at the same time supportive and loving, though it took a long time to get there. For those of us with difficult teenaged years we can understand how easy it is to fall out with our parents, but then slowly find your way back to them, even if it’s not smooth sailing.
Though this is about an improbably story, it still manages to feel real and believable.
A very enjoyable read.

The story explores the connection that has been forged between Brett and Cath. They are from vastly different backgrounds but in many ways their characters are similar. I loved the secondary characters who all contributed hugely tote warmth and substance of the story.
So, why not 5 stars? Ok, so it's no secret that I like dual pov books best but that is my personal preference so I happily accept that some prefer single pov BUT in this book I honestly felt at least some of it should have been from Brett's viewpoint. I needed more of him and his headspace. This is a slow burn romance, which is great, but I felt like I didn't know him very well even at the end.
Having said all that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to see other characters get their stories (I'm looking at Jack, Keith or Misty here!)
HEA? Yes, but I would have loved to have seen further into their future.
Cheating? No
