I did enjoy Kings anfd Butterflies, so when I saw the opportunity for this one, I was more than happy to get my hands on it!
One of my favorite things about this story was the element of magic realism, and the way it was merged within the plot.
The characters were also quite charming! And the way the relationship developed was adorable. At first I was worried about the clear imbalance between Jesse and Taln, but the whole situation was handled with great care, so it was really satisfying to read: I loved to see Taln adjust to his new life, and to try to find his own place, not having to depend on Jesse all the time.
The conflict was gripping (both the realistic one and the one involving magic), and made for a very dynamic read. I do wish that the ending had had more of a "bang", so to speak. After so much tension, I felt like it was a bit underwhelming how everything wrapped quite so quickly. But nothing too bad.
The characters were very likeable. Taln, who suddenly appears in front of Jesse, is very naïve but very sweet. He takes things quite literally and that makes for funny situations. Jesse is a sweetheart who helps Taln without questions. They are cute together and the chemistry was very real.
Although, for me, this is not Lina Langley’s best book I can certainly recommend it.
I was honored with an advanced reader copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this book.
Very real subjective sensations are conveyed in the telling of someone victimized, emotionally and physically abused and convinced that it is all their own fault, no matter how many times friends may try to explain that it's not.
Excellent portrayal of the first time someone feels the sensations that love can cause, and not understand how to describe them or what they mean.
“Love...It’s such a small word to fit all that in.”
All in a well-plotted storyline, with a few open threads yet complete and compellingly involving.
Due to my geographical location, I didn't buy this on the dot-com site of Amazon
Taln is banished from Minburry Citadel, his world, as punishment because he doesn't follow the rules. He lands on Earth, between the garbagebins, right out of the sky. Jesse with is kind nature takes him in and offer to help adapt. As Taln tries to understand words, menings,.... and also what has happened to him. Taln is very naïve & very sweet, takes things literally and makes for funny situations. Jesse is a sweetheart with alot of patience. They are cute together and the chemistry was very real. Jesse is also trying to deal with an abusive ex boyfriend and struggling. He is immediately taken by Taln. The attraction between them is powerful, immediate & confusing for Taln (puke).
The story is a joyous journey, full hearted and charming. This is a wonderful book that I absolutely recommend.
This wasn't my favourite book of Lina's as I found the story wasn't as engaging as previous ones I've read. The main conflict point seemed to be a strange one and didn't really work for me. However I still quite enjoyed the story.
This is the first story I’ve read by this author and I must say this was quite a riveting read. Great story well written with a few plot holes and fully developed characters that you can’t help but to love. I can truly relate to Taln being a straight forward person who takes what you say literally at face value. Say what you mean, mean what you say I don’t have time to sit here and try an interpret everything you say. So needless to say I’m literally the same way. All an all great entertaining page turning read.
