Although many people have love or hate feelings towards the 1987 film, I find myself coming back to it again and again, and I don't think it's as much for the performances as much as it is for the soundtrack.
There are few soundtracks, to me, that help define and enhance a film: "The Omen," "Jaws," and others of Morricone's spaghetti westerns. It's his work that truly makes this film what it is: imagine the scene from "Machine Gun Lullaby" WITHOUT the music and it just doesn't work as well. Any other composer just could not have made that scene come together.
Another example would be Ness' chase with Nitti. Now imagine that scene with "On The Rooftops." It is just not as suspenseful at all, and without Morricone's soundtrack work, I can't imagine this movie being as entertaining for me as it was.
The album is not available for download, but the CD is a wonderful find. Hunt it down if you want some angular soundtrack songs that will take you back to that 1987 film.
