A parent's worst nightmare is described as a mother gets off a train that is delayed at a station. She wants to make a call without waking up her six-year-old daughter. The conductor calls for everyone to board and the mother is destracted and doesn't hear. When the train arrives at its final destination, the child is missing.
When the police interview the mother, their first thought is that it is a domestic kidnapping and attempt to locate the child's father.
Even though the mother's history of abuse makes the father seem like a likely target, investigative analyst, Fredrika Bergman, a new member of the investigatory team, and not fully appreciated in the male dominated police force, has other thoughts. She begins looking into the possibility that if the child's father isn't the kidnapper, who might be.
With excellent dialogue and psychological insight into the investigators, their thoughts and family life, the reader observes their reaction when their investigation takes a new turn. This makes the characters more sympathetic and for us to want them to succeed in their search for the kidnapper.
"Unwanted" is a literary sensation in Sweden and provides the reader with a compelling story that is literate, with characters who come to life as we read.
4 1/2 stars moving up to 5.

Unwanted is a phenomenal detective novel set in Sweden with complex and riveting characters and twisted and chilling plot. Unwanted is a page-turner that will keep readers up well past midnight. I can't wait to see what Kristina has in store for her readers next.

Well written, she is a good story teller. The book also appears to have a good translator to English, as the narrative flows well. A good use of my time.Published 4 days ago by Mariangela

There was a lot of buildup to a very anticlimactic ending.

I'm exited to read the next book and get into the characters a little more. I love mystery stories but this wasn't as twisted as I had hoped.Published 3 months ago by Anna Paterno
