While this is not a "fun" book to read, and sometimes the details are more than one can easily comprehend, the story is compelling and definitely inspiring. GAO is an amazing individual, whose faith and confidence in God, has enables him to endure horrible treatment with hope. It gives one a true picture of what life is like in China when one is critical of the current government, and lives for truth and justice.

Gao Zhisheng was one of Beijing's most successful lawyers. Self-taught and brought up in poverty, he came to prominence through his defense of individuals persecuted by the Chinese government for their religion and practice of Falun Gong, before being detained, tortured, and imprisoned himself by the same regime. These pages are not an easy read, because they detail the regime's attempts to break one of the greatest spirits of our time. Despite this, Gao Zhisheng's unwavering convictions, profound beliefs, and commitment to humanity shine through.

I had been following this Christian Brother in JESUS for a number of years. What really amazes me is that even though he has suffered so many horrific inhumane things, he tells it with such a great sense of humor. A must read that will inform people of true life in China.

I never realized how brutal and authoritarian the Chinese government is. This book was an amazing education though it was at times hard to read because of what Gao went through.

Amazing!!

the video found on Vimeo, "Transcending Fear: The Story of Gao Zhisheng" is a more comprehensive telling of what Gao has been subjected to. While reading Gao's book, 'Unwavering Convictions," it seemed to me that George Orwell visited present day China to gather the data to write his book, '1984.' North Korea and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) engage in the same cruel treatment and torture to those that speak out and to their innocent family members. In spite of his suffering, Gao observed, "...people who carry out the orders of authoritarian rule are also victims of it themselves." (quote from Teng Biao). Oh brother Gao, where art thou?

The extraordinary true account of Chinese lawyer Gao ZhiSheng's imprisonment and torture for standing up for human rights in China.

Gao Zhisheng's account of his sufferings for standing up for human rights in China is amazing. His courage and heroism in standing up to appalling treatment by the Chinese government can only be admired. One of China's greatest men.
