Absolutely amazing, shockingly incredible, gut-wrenchingly emotional, and, breathtakingly beautiful. These are just some of the words that come to mind when thinking about the new release I recently had the absolute pleasure in reading. It was an experience that prompted me to ponder the possibility of turning back time just so that I could read it for the first time all over again. As long as no one had to get hurt again..that is. Despite the existence of triggers, it was one of those books that encouraged me to actually take my time reading because I did-not-want-it-to-end.
Unwilling, by Hannah L. Corrie, was the first book I had read from this author and it most certainly will not be my last. As this was a different type of shifter story, and, as it kept me on the edge-of-my-seat throughout most of the story, it enabled me to drink in all of the possibilities with this type of trope. I was glued to this multi-pov'd story consisting of welcomed and uniquely detailed lengthy chapters. It's structure contained, at times, an equally unique style-of-writing, which had molded the various chapters into ones containing almost like a combination of a known-foreshadowing, with an almost known-premonition, all the while enabling the reader to watch the events all develop, without being able to do a single thing except wait and watch it all unfold with abated breath.
Unwilling is one of those hidden gems that one accidentally falls over, that quickly develops into something unforgettable, as that story with a thought-provoking storyline, a gripping plot, and great characters that all morph into quite the story. While not perfect, as there were a few times that I had to do a re-read for better comprehension, the underlying theme, or true meat, was absolutely stunning. I frequently exclaimed as I read, "Wow, oh my gosh, really? Wow.."
I loved the main characters, Darwin and Jared, and while I had wished for more of character background and a bit more development for the two, I had loved reading about their overall development into two strong, self-sacrificing, intelligent, and, loving werewolves. Throughout their plight towards survival, I found the writing to be extremely realistic, as I found myself emotionally and physically invested, as the shear pain raked through Darwin and Jared, as they were either physically and or emotionally ripped from the various dangerous and tumultuous series of events, by the thinnest of margins.
I loved the secondary characters and enjoyed reading about their background, which was just enough to greedily want to read more about them. *Cough* Harry and Rayne *Cough* Throughout the story, there were many times when I found myself cheering loudly as I fist pumped right into the air out of sheer excitement, as I was also just as scared-out-of-my-mind for these characters, as I found myself going down many different roads which were filled with many twists and turns. Due to the roller-coaster types of emotions I had experienced throughout this read, I now need to invest in a few more boxes of economy-sized tissues, as I found myself bawling as a result of those questionable moments.
Even though there were times when a re-read was necessary for clarity, and, there were hopes for more character background, and, sometimes the multiple pov's were, at times, slightly confusing as well, Unwilling was a powerfully amazing and incredible read. I absolutely loved it. :)

First, we meet Jared, a seemly standard college jock, all smiles and funny quips. Than we meet Darla who hits Jared with a boomerang. With Darla insisting that Jared go to the sick room which at that time was being manned by Darwin. And so that’s when the story really takes off. Jared and Darwin are both shifters. So, besides their relationship being full of the normal angst now they have to deal with the rules and customs of the shifter society. Throw in some crazies, mixed messages, and love and lust. These are all of the ingredients to make a great read. This book has a lot of meat to it. Detailed building of characters, and the author has even given us a wonderful cast of secondary characters. If this book is taste of the author’s talent, then WOW keep writing.
I received a copy of this book from the author, my review has been voluntarily submitted.
