Blue Christmas by Erin McCarthy
Blue Farrow is tired of hearing Christmas songs; it's making her feel rather like Scrooge. She's booked a cruise for the holiday in order to escape yet another of her parents un-traditional Christmases. But she ends up missing her cruise and ends up driving in a blizzard when she loses control of her car and crashes into an SUV.
Christian Dawes loves Christmas; he's going to play the awesome uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. On Christmas Eve when another vehicle crashes into his SUV, he discovers the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. She's going to have to have her car towed so Christian decides to help her. Together, they end up being stranded at the No Tell Motel. Christian might have to thank Santa this year because he's stranded with Blue, alone in a hotel, which he thinks is a very nice present indeed.
Blue Christmas by Erin McCarthy is really a cute story. Blue is an independent and unconventional person. She may have had trauma in her life but she's able to see the bright side of things and make the best of what she's been dealt. Christian is traditional and sweet, and a gentleman to his core. Together they are a really sweet couple. I liked their chemistry and their different viewpoint about the holidays. I also liked how sweet and kind Christian really is, which made me never want to stop reading this story.
Santa in a Kilt by Donna Kauffman
Shay Callaghan is attending his best friend's wedding. He only has eyes for the maid of honor, Kira McLeod. While Shay is happy his best friend has found true love, he doesn't see it in the cards for himself. He'd never asked Kira out because he thought his best friend Roan had liked her. But now that Roan is married, Shay decides to let Kira know how he feels. She might not be "the one" but he's definitely interested in her. When the town of Kinloch gets into their heads to make Shay and Kira a match, Shay fights it but love is a game he might not be able to beat.
Santa in a Kilt by Donna Kauffman had me with the word "Kilt." Give me a Scottish man in a kilt and you have my undivided attention. Watching Shay get taken down by Cupid and a town of matchmakers was the best ride ever. I loved the joy and spirit of this story. While reading this story I laughed and smiled a lot. Kira is strong and sweet while Shay is tough and quiet. Watching them fall for each other kept a smile on my face.
Snow Angel by Kate Angell
Allie and Aiden had a hot holiday romance, but Allie fled which left Aiden lost and confused. Three years later, Allie is trapped in Dutton's Department store on Christmas Eve. Security had stopped her thinking she was a shoplifter. When they take her to meet the owner of the store, it turns out to be Aiden, the man she had fled from three years before. Allie and Aiden end up stuck in the department store because of snow. Only this time Aiden doesn't intend to let Allie get away from him again. Now that he's found her, he won't let her go.
Snow Angel by Kate Angell is a very hot story; the beginning just about singed my fingers. Aiden and Allie's chemistry is off the charts and you can almost feel it as you read the story. Aiden is a really hot man, with a strong heart and a strong mind. He's willing to do whatever it takes to keep the woman he loves. Allie might be scared and running but she can't outrun Aiden's love.
Overall Unwrapped is a mix of stories which are sweet and romantic. They left me wanting my own holiday romance. I really enjoyed reading this anthology and will be keeping it on my shelf.
In the Erin McCarthy story, two complete opposites are stranded together during a winter storm and give in to their attraction. Blue Farrow comes from a background in which Christmas was not celebrated in a traditional way, much to her regret. Her mother is a hardcore activist who was more likely to spend the holidays taking care of others' needs rather than coddle and comfort her own daughter. Her father was absent for the majority of her childhood and has new family with his very young wife. These things contributed to Blue's cynical outlook on life. However, through the course of the story we discover that Blue isn't as hard as she makes out to be. One of her Christmas traditions is using her hair stylist skills to give the little old ladies at the seniors' center new hairdos so they feel good about themselves. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Christian Dawes is big on family and loves everything about Christmas, embracing the completely corny as well as the classic. The sexual attraction was very big in this story, but they also did a lot of talking and getting to know each other in a very short amount of time. I would have read a full size version of this as well.
