This story begins right where we're left from Book #1. Except Olivia is free of doubt about her growing relationship with Cash...that is, she's decided she wants Cash and no other. Let me just say....I love Olivia Townsend's character. She's genuine and unassuming. She's beautiful and sexy and has no clue. I love her realism...she's clumsy and blurts the funniest things without thinking...she's always sticking her foot in her mouth..taking it out and sticking the other one in. It's hilarious! I love that she "snorts" without thinking. She's absolutely breathtakingly adorable and shy. She's also still one mixed up little gal. She's been hurt too many times by involving herself with "bad boy's" and has resolved NOT to become involved with a bad-boy in the future. But she fall's hard for Cash anyway.
Cash Davenport (25) is the owner of a successful club/bar, "Dual". He's handsome, cocky and very sexy with a bad-boy aura. And he's verrrry attracted to Olivia. Her sexy, cute, innocence draws him like a swarm of bee's to nectar. He's hired Olivia to be a bartender at his Club.
This story has the usual false assumptions and more false reading into someone's actions that a teensy conversation would clear up. But then, there'd be no story, would there? Olivia is constantly over analyzing and over thinking stuff...asking herself "does he still want me"?...."Is he pretending"?...."Do I really know him"?...."Am I holding onto him too tight..."?...."Should I run for my life"? On and on it goes. Questions that a simple mature and truthful conversation combined with honesty wouldn't correct. Olivia's questions can become tedious...but this is her personality.
The crazy thing is, Cash is questioning himself (and her) too...almost the exact same way. It becomes a bit childish. They're each reading more into "tight smiles that don't quite reach the eyes"...and "subtle quick glances when they think the other doesn't see", etc. Part of their problem is Olivia wanting to keep their relationship a secret from mutual friends (I don't get that). The other is her low self-esteem and trust issues.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment of this trilogy. (Can we hope the story will end with book three??). That being said, I have to say it had a few holes and loose threads of which I'm not going to disclose without revealing the plot (no spoilers). All in all, I thought this Author told this story well in spite of the predictability of what was happening. Still, the dialogue is refreshing and balanced so well with the narrative. There's mystery and suspenseful intrigue. But I hate cliff hangers...I hate inconclusive finishes. I hate having to buy another book to find out what's going on only to find out the next book might not finish this story either! grrrrrr.
Cash and Olivia are both likable characters, and I was rooting for them to finally get to the point of admitting their true feelings for one another. The chemistry these two have is hot! I love how Cash is such a bad-boy but at the same time so kind-hearted...he would do anything to protect those he loves. Olivia had some internal struggles with how she SHOULD feel rather than what she DOES feel, but not to the point where she becomes irritating.
There's not too much that I can say about the parts that I loved about this book, since (of course) those good parts contain spoilers. But, I can say that the author did a great job of keeping me in suspense throughout the entire book and she threw me for a loop a couple of times with situations I just did not see coming!
Like with the first book, the ending provided me with enough contentment - it's obvious that the story is not yet complete but it doesn't leave you with a major cliffhanger.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!
This book starts right after Down to You ends so it is important to read it first. Cash is back and he is hotter than ever...and sweeter too. He is still cocky, but also loving and protective too. Olivia got on my nerves many times during this book because the girl still has trust issues. And they have a lot to deal with so things of course did not go right to happily ever after...
(Quote)Olivia: Not only did I do exactly what I knew I shouldn't--get involved with another bad boy--but I went and picked one that actually has a dangerous past. He's not just dangerous to my heart; he's dangerous period!
(Quote)Cash: "Can you trust me? Please! I know I've not given you many reasons to, but this one time, just go with your heart. I promise you, promise you, I won't let you down."
I really cannot say much without giving away some of the story. So just know there is danger, excitement, fighting, bad guys, surprises, and lots of sex. And in the midst of all the chaos, you see Cash and Olivia trying to continue to build their relationship.
(Quote)Cash: "Trust in what you know about me. Because I know, if you stop listening to your fear, you know who I am. Deep down. You know me, Olivia. You know me."
(Quote)Olivia: Somehow when I wasn't looking, I fell. I fell hard. For my soul mate. For the love of my life. For my hero.
(Quote)Olivia: Cash broke all the rules, broke all my rules. He's not giving me reason to run. He's giving me reason to stay. And all I have to do is muster the courage to do it, to take the chance.
And we get to meet a couple of other hunky guys in this book too. This book leads right up to Book 3 and I am looking forward to seeing where that takes us. I do not think I enjoyed this one quite as much as Down to You, but it was still an enjoyable read and I loved visiting with these characters again.
