This book was everything I was expecting from the author. It was rough. It was gritty. It was glorious. Made me feel gamut of emotions throughout. From horror, anger, sadness, revulsion, and then joy. There were times I was spitting mad, and other times I just wanted to cry. For them both. Talk about agony. Their circumstances, it made me want to beat my chest at the unfairness of it all. But one thing I knew for sure. The author always delivers in her writing. Even when she obliterates my heart, damn near every freaking time. She always managed to put the broken pieces back together in the end. That's one thing I can always expect from her. And this story was no exception.
I have to say I absolutely loved Frankie's character. The girl got fire and spirit. She was strong, defiant, smart, brave, and possessed a core of steel. The way she challenged Smoke made me proud and crackled with glee. She's definitely a fighter. I love their battles, the passion and raw intensity of their connection. It was both beautiful and volatile. You can see how much Smoke was captivated with Frankie yet still conflicted. He lived for vengeance for so long. It tore him up inside to desire the daughter of his enemy. Yet, despite his brutality, he never truly harmed her and crossed that line from which there is no return. But not to say I wasn't furious at Smoke at times. For all the pain and emotional torture he inflicted on Frankie. Intentional or otherwise.
Only a couple of things mar the sheer perfection of this story. I didn't like Smoke bringing the random woman home to screw in front of Frankie. And then afterwards, pulling Frankie to cuddle with him. It was just cruel and like Frankie I felt a bit betrayed and hurt. Because despite her being his tool for revenge, it was still kind of effed up. I mean, they were already getting somewhat intimate, just felt like a slap to the face. I get why he did it, but it still turned my stomach. At least it was brief and never happened again. Though I wished Frankie had given him a punch instead of melting in his arms later. Because let me tell you, Smoke turned out to be a VERY possessive and jealous man. Especially when Nine and Duke are around Frankie. Should have given him a little taste of his own medicine. Just ticked me off that even after that, she ended giving him her virginity.
The other thing is that poor Frankie, the innocent in all this had to endured so much for naught. She NEVER deserved it in the first place. I was expecting her to be a tiny bit angry at Smoke. For some of the misery he put her through with the kidnapping and being his prisoner. Especially when the truth was revealed and how he got it all wrong. About EVERYTHING. Sucks that she had to pay the price for someone else's manipulation and greed.
But despite these two things, the story was still phenomenal to me. I was completely enraptured, heart in my throat all through that explosive ending. Frankie was just amazing. Blew me away with her courage and sacrifice. And yes, I did end up forgiving Smoke. How could I not. The man was just SHATTERED when he thought he lost Frankie. Ready to die rather than live in a world without her. He definitely redeemed himself. Proved with words and deeds how much he loved Frankie. And the way he fought for her. He was Magnificent. Ferocious. Pure Savage.
"I'll shed the blood of every effing man who gets in the way of my saving Frankie. There's no one I won't kill. I'll burn the effingng world down for her and bask in the mothereffing flames."
The epilogue I thought was nice. I would have loved to have seen them a few more years down the road instead of months. Marriage, a couple of kids. But it's too soon and they needed time to heal and reconnect. I'm sure we'll revisit these two later in upcoming books. Also nice to see the crew again. Preppy, Rage, Nolan, Bear and King. Nine seems interesting, wouldn't mind to read his story next.
This one had my heart racing from the very beginning, and I had no idea it would be as intoxicating and twisty as it turned out to be. These characters always push the limits of lovable insanity and I love each and every one. Smoke is darkly animalistic, sexy, and dangerous, my absolute favorite anti-hero to read. With glimpses of my favorites from previous books, I almost felt the need to do an entire re-read of the series because I love them so much!! Intertwined pasts, uncertain futures, and a draw to each other that can't be ignored, Smoke is off the charts hot!! Watching him fall was intense!!
"She's my victim and I'm her tormentor. She's my prey, and I'm the predator. She is mine to do with as I please."
Watching these two grapple for power was hypnotizing...Frankie was not in any way portrayed as week or a victim, and I loved that about her. Equally entertaining was that she fit so well in the band of misfits that I will one-click for the rest of eternity. Kudos to the Author for a glimpse of Preppy, because he is one of my most favorite characters EVER!!. Insanely hot in a dangerous, forbidden way, I inhaled this book as if I was starving for air and it was my oxygen source. Heart pounding, intense action has your pulse pumping a mile a minute, and I didn't see half of what happened coming!! It's a must read series, and I will never get enough of it!!
"I love him. The good, the bad, the violent, the brutal, and the bloody. I love all of him."

T.M Frazier has this incredible way with words that immediately captivates you from the very first page.
Like a movie begins in your head, quieting all reality as you lose yourself in her characters and their story.
Smoke was just as delicious as I remember.
Rough, dangerous, mysterious and a whole lot of sexy!
Frankie was spirited, insanely smart, BRAVE, adorably quirky and a fighter.
The chemistry between them was off the charts hot, the constant push and pull exciting and leaving you with thoughts of “will they or won’t they?”.
Never quite knowing what to expect, because these two were anything but predictable.
Unfortunately, Smoke’s actions during a certain part of the book were very disappointing.
I think had it happened earlier on in the story I could have dealt with it just fine, but the fact that it did so far in honestly just made me sad.
As much as it pains me to admit it, his actions so late in the story just sort of put a damper on any emotions I had invested into his and Frankie’s relationship from there on out.
I did enjoy a certain whiskey drinking side character whom I really hope to be when I grow up, and the visits from characters in the previous books made me positively giddy!
This book was full of action, suspense, gut-wrenching heartache, toe-curling steam and even a few laugh out loud moments.
While not a five-star read for me this time around, I realize that I am most likely in the minority over why it wasn’t, and it honestly just boils down to personal preference.
I still thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I recommend it.
T.M Frazier will always be one of my favorites and I eagerly await her next release!
