I have had really thick mashes to thin no-sparge and the whip works really great. The length is perfect for 10 gallon igloo coolers to step-sparging in a 15 gallon keggle. It is really well made and cleans fairly easy.
- Easy to manage with one hand (in moderate mash thickness)
- HAVE TO HAVE and eliminates the need to unclump mash dough balls
- Could be hard to stir one-handed with thick mash (grasping for straws here)
This is an inexpensive must have.
This is really a great deal - I paid less than $11 for this, replacing my flimsy plastic mash paddle with a nice steel commercial quality tool, whereas a steel paddle will run you over $30. I'm giving 4 stars just because I don't love the way that the wires are joined together at the tip. They are crimped into a bend in one of the wires, which is somewhat loose. Because of this they tend to wobble around a lot. I could bend it myself to be tighter. The positive aspect of this design is that grain won't get stuck in there so it's easier to clean. Anyway, I'm very happy with this product - highly recommend getting one for BIAB. It's cheap, and along with a fine crush, it can help your efficiency thereby saving you money and improving your ability to replicate your recipes.
For this batch of 13.5 lbs of 2 Row Domestic Pale, Flaked Wheat and some Crystal 10 I dumped the whole 5 gallon pail into my kettle to see how it would handle it. A few minutes of stirring and no dough balls present at all.
Will have to see how it works with Marris Otter. I seem to get massive dough balls with this grain at my crush size previously. Am confident this wisk can handle it though.
Great build quality and I definitely recommend it!
