I read a part of a review, I think in Moment Magazine about Upfall. Not reading the entire review, I was intrigued by the premise of what an Israel-Iran war would look like. Because I did not read the entire review, the book was not at all what I expected.
Setting that aside and looking at the book on its merits, I found the premise intriguing. While there was an interchange with the Iranians, the book turned out to be a science fiction novel about a group of Israeli commandos who go back in time to fight Nazis. After getting over the initial shock of understanding this was not a current novel, but one about time travel, I went for it and read it.
Good thing I did. The writer pulls you into the story. It is engaging and full of intriguing ideas and plots. The main characters are believable. Having met a few Israeli commandos in my day (I am sure I am not an expert), the ones I met have an air of power; I might go as far as to say arrogance. But, not in a bad way. These folks, men and women, earned that privilege. Now, put them up against elite SS troupes and watch what happens.
I found the book thoroughly enjoyable, but the ending is lacking. I hope the author plans a sequel. With some returning to the current era and some remaining in the past, there are a number of possible story lines that could emerge. I'll keep watch and wait and will definitely read the next book should there be one.
