Awesome, quite dryer, does it's job well!
Had this dryer for 8 monthes now. I printed a shelf and have had iot next to my printer, very conveiant. just pop a roll in there, feed through to the extruder. Never had a problem with Filament in there. USe PLA+, TPU, and recently moving to PETG. When I change a spool, I take it out of the dryer and pop it into a vacuum bag. The dryer is compact, easy to change setting, just quietly does it's job. One thing to note... which frustrates me I haven't been able to solve... the feeder tube... when the spool of filament is near the end and the spool gets really light... and the filament is tight around the spool... the spool lifts and instead of feeding filament the feeder tube is pulled into the dry and wraps itself around around the spool hub causing no filament to be fed to exrtuder and the extruder starts splipping and printing without filament coming out. I've tried glueing the feeeder tube, putting a binder clip on it to keep it from slipping into the dry. I've tried tub & Tile caulk... nothign sticks to the plastic tube so it can be locked in place. I'm thinking i'm going to CAD up a small part to glue or screw into place. Something with a hole for the filament but smaller to block teh feed tube from being pulled in. The other option would be to hold the spool in place, but that isn't particle with this unit. For now when I come to end of spool I take the spool out of the dryer and hang it on the printer spool holder till it runs out.

Not to jinx things but the Sunlu has been a champ for one year now. No issues drying PLA, PLA+, or PETG as well as the occasional desiccant pack. Game changer with my cheap open-frame printer, prints without using the dryer have horrible surface quality while those dried properly (~20%RH or less) look pristine. Top and bottom heating elements and recirc fan are a great improvement over the original (no turning spools). Plentiful of options in the onscreen menu for filament types and drying time.

I did print a wedge with filament guide (from @Voltex on Printables) that allows moisture to more easily escape as well as provide a filament path better suited for my printer. Otherwise, great dryer and a must-have for consistently good prints.

The filament dryer is compact and a nice clean little setup. The display is bright and easy to read, and it generally seems to work well. There is a fistful of dessicant packs inside the dryer, and I wasn't sure if it was just for packing or if they are to help with storing filament in the dryer. Turns out it is the latter. The packs eventually soak up water and can be "recharged" by baking them to have them release the moisture.

Originally I tried drying out a roll of PETG that had been sitting out for a couple of weeks, and I decided to add the dessicant packs into the dryer (it was drying at 50c, which is still safe for the paper packs). The first thing I noticed is that there isn't a built in cutoff for turning off the dryer if you open the lid. The inside doesn't get dangerously hot, so it wasn't a big deal. What surprised me is that once I put in the dessicant packs, the relative humidity went from 78% up into the 90-something percent. So it seems that those packs had absorbed a bunch of water and were releasing it again once heated. It took probably 5-6 hours before the packs seemed to have dried out and the relative humidity in the dryer went back down to 73% (the ambient humidity at the time). So, the quick lesson is, dry out those dessicant packs before you try to dry any filament - otherwise they'll just release moisture into the dryer while you're trying to dry out your filament!

The instructions that come with the unit were pretty minimal, the online instructions were better but the controls for turning on the LED light ring are blended in with the controls for turning the drying function on and off. I was expecting to find a seperate button or screen control for turn the drying function on and off, but you have to use the LED (on/off) settings to turn the dryer on and off. You also need to press the power "on/off" button twice to turn on the power for the dryer, which is kind of weird and non-intuitive.

Overall, I think this filament dryer is a winner, and aside from the caveats about drying out the dessicant packages before drying your filament, and some non-intuitive design choices in the UI, its a good investment for 3D printer owners. Way better than baking your filament in the oven!

Picked up a pair of Sunlu driers and both work great. The display is clear and is easy to navigate. It is also nice to be able to turn it on and off right from the touch screen. It also remembers any settings to chose for each material so you don't have to reset them when to move back and forth between materials. Another nice feature is the length of time you can run it on the timer, up to 99 hours, longer than I would ever actually need.

Contrary to the claims of reviewer Larry, no this doesn't use desiccant bags to do the drying and leaving the desiccant bags just sitting on the heater element is what ruined his unit. This heater has heating elements all around the outer diameter which bakes the water out of the filament. The included desiccant bags go along with the included ziplock type spool storage bags to keep your dried filament dry after you have run the spools through the heater.

I would recommend this if you are having any problem with moisture in your filament or are like me and am a bit lazy to put the spools back in storage bags between each use, sometimes just leaving them out on the desk for days on in, sometimes right next to open windows on a rainy day. Yeah, I am that lazy.

I'm now invested into Sunlu dryers. This is an awesome product that pairs nicely as a companion to my Bambu Lab P1S. Everything in the product description is accurate and very nicely packaged. I want to add that if you have a M6 Pnuematic fittings, you can screw them right into the holes where your filament would lead out. This works nicely to get the dried filament directly to an enclosed printer through the insulated bowden tube and into your extruder hassle free. Happy printing and thanks Sunlu. Definitely will be buying more Sunlu products going forward! =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent unit, works out of the box, no mods required
Reviewed in Canada on July 11, 2023
I had always been skeptical when it came to filament dehydrators, but when I heard the filament making a popping noise as it passed through my extruder during a print I decided to give this one a go. I decided to test it by buying a brand new roll of filament, vacuum-sealed from manufacturer with desiccant in the bag. As expected, this new filament printed well on day one, but after about four days in ~70% humidity my print quality was suffering. After about 6 hours in this dehydrator, the exact same print GCode produced a perfect print with the same day one results. I've tried running this dehydrator for a 24 hour print as an endurance test, and to its credit it has done very well! I'm quite pleased with this little device, and if you have an office without AC/humidity control this is a great tool to have. I'm wondering how many print issues I've tried to rectify in the past that may have just come down to moisture in the filament.

I do want to address two patterns I've seen in other reviews for this device: this first is that this is an expensive unit, and that the value for the dollar is poor because "I can buy a used food dehydrator/toaster oven instead for much cheaper". This may be true, but the implication there is that you will have to modify whatever you get to make it suitable for purpose, and you will likely end up with a heavier, larger, more energy-hungry solution. If you want to spend the time sourcing a used item, then modifying it to save yourself some cash, that's awesome and more power to you! However, I think the value comparison needs to take into account the differences used vs. new, ready-to-go vs. time and effort to modify, and small form factor vs. homebrew solution.

The second comment I've seen is "the heating element wasn't on all the time". I would suspect this is the normal operation of the device as it reaches its target temperature setpoint. Some fancier heating controllers may vary current to hit a temperature setpoint, but it's cheaper and easier to just make an ON/OFF controller and vary the duration of time that the heating element is on or off in a given cycle. I've worked with many PID controllers for temperature control that use this exact approach. Without cutting this one open I couldn't say for sure, but my thought would be to not change the control system on your device unless it's not getting to its target setpoint and that the heating element turning off and on is probably not indicative of erroneous operation.

In short, there are cheaper ways to dry your filament to be sure. But this one did a great job out-of-the-box with zero modifications. It has a nice small footprint, looks good, and I found the controls fairly easy to use. I also like humidity indicator on the display. My only gripe is the power cable is a bit short for my setup, but that's just individual circumstance.

So far so good. It evenly dries out filament; so far I've used PETG and PLA but I'm sure it will be just as effective with other filament types.

Has two small perforations on the top case which accept PTFE tubing for filament. I run filament straight to the printer with no issues at all. Works very well paired with a Bambu Lab P1S with AMS.

It's well made, doesn't feel cheap and has a bit more control than the single-dial dryers I see on Amazon.

Reviewed in Canada on December 27, 2023
I have about 50+ running hours on the S2 so far without any problems or hiccups whatsoever. And my hygrometer works and it does have a small internal fan. I'm not complaining, but there are a couple of suggestions I'd have for future models: 1) place the hole by the opening (or another hole) closer to the "horizon", right now the angle is not great if the unit is used above the printer; 2) try to make the fan whir a bit quieter - right now it's not loud or obnoxious however it is noticeable from across a room, reminds me of what old hard drives sometimes sound like 3) I found the "legs" awkward and so ended up rigging and hanging it above the printer in a "hanging rope planter" type of configuration. For me at least it would be helpful if there were a couple of molded hook attachment points by which you could hang it easily from the ceiling. But again, I have no complaints, it works good.
