I have wanted a complete coconut cracking/opening set for a long time. I use to use a hammer and my husbands chisel out in the garage to crack my coconuts. It wasn’t accurate or safe to say the least. I finally gave up on buying coconuts because coconut water became so easy to find. When I saw this set, I had to have it. It is very good quality and the set has everything you need to successfully open your coconut. I am so happy to finally be able to easily open my coconuts when I am able to find them. If you love fresh coconut water and flesh, you will love this set.

My favorite part of this very inexpensive kit is the mallet. It's worth the price alone, a well built tool of general applicability. You can get a lot of use out of it in between the times you need it to bang on the coconut opening knife.

The coconut opening knife is a circular knife that you bang into the top of the coconut with the mallet. Its necessarily rather sharp. It also includes some cutouts that can be used for opening bottles; this is called the new improved version with those cutouts. Rather than banging on the middle, I'd recommend banging with the mallot on the edges, going around it. The middle is not as strong, and it's harder to penetrate everywhere all at once.

Then there's a scraper that might be useful in scooping out coconut meat if you don't like using a spoon. Some silicone straws if you like to use them for drinking the juice. And a silicone mat that you could put the coconut on before banging on it. These little pieces could be useful in various ways, although I would not especially need them for eating a coconut.

The set is worth it, for the mallet alone.
