I bought these for making acoustic treatment panels. It cut the fabric very well as expected. Very sharp. Can be intimidating to others.

I also used it to cut the Tontine Acousticsorb 3 insulation 75mm thick. It couldn't cut through the whole sheet of insulation, but was able to cut it in layers with multiple passes, making about 3 passes to cut through the whole thing. Pretty good considering how hard it is to cut this stuff.

The blades are quite thick and strong so you can really put some weight into cutting stuff if you need to. However, the handles are just painted metal so maybe opt for the soft handled ones if you want something a bit easier on the hands.

I bought these scissors because I was going replace the carpet in my old van and knew I didn't have anything to cut the half inch insulation and carpet. I was not disappointed! These scissors are big, sharp, sturdy built, with nice big handles that are comfortable while cutting thick material. It says in the description that they are made in the US. They are not. They are made in Columbia but they are still a very good pair of scissors. I now use them for everything I need scissors for. They stay in my toolbox

I bought these for an upholstery class rather than pay the instructor $60 for a pair. While I didn't pay attention to the fact that they are 12+" long, I have to say these cut very well, are very sturdy and are the talk of class not only for the value at $33, their size (I feel safe walking to my car with these in hand) and their cutting ability.

Best scissors I've ever used! This are some top of the line quality scissors. They're very sharp and built to last forever. They're also big, you could use them to film a movie and they'd be a perfect weapon. Lol

I bought these sissors so I wouldn't have to make as many cutting strokes as I do with smaller sissors I cut radiant barrier insulation with these sissors and we install this stuff in hot attics so the less cutting time the better these sissors are very sharp so be careful cause they don't come with a belt case my crew was so impressed I've ordered three more pair

I'm from the "if a little will do good a lot will do better" school of thought. I bought these to use as desk scissors in my home office. They're huge! But, I certainly have no problems cutting paper and opening packages (or cutting mooring line if I needed to). So, since these are excellent quality I recommend them. However, unless you are planning to actually cut mooring line you might want to purchase one of the smaller sizes.

Perfect scissors to cut thick, thin fabrics. Be wary, the scissors are indeed 12 1/4 inches. They're huge. I've been using them for a while now and they're still sharp like they were brand new. I use them daily.

.
My pair from 30 years ago is still going strong. I've used them for all kinds of material...from ripstop nylon to carpet and carpet padding. Fiberglass insulation. Thin cardboard.

The long blades are good for "freeway driving" and the blade thickness is essential for heavier materials. Thinner blades flex too much and you lose the cut.

If you're active with craft and workshop things, $1 per year is not too much to pay for a quality shear like this.

Low tide is around $34. If necessary, you can set an price alert with camelcamelcamel, which also shows price history.
