As with all of Kendra's books, the characters are wonderfully developed with true depth. Even the secondary characters are fleshed out, making the world Lexa and Quinn live in come alive. (There might be a pun in there since the series deals with artificial life and what it means to be human.)
To sum up, this was a great addition to the Unstrung Series. I can't wait for book three!
We’re back with Lexa and Quinn, though they aren’t together. Lexa has been arrested and is being held prisoner by the Quad and Quinn is desperate to get her back. Everyone is unwilling to have one without the other, so Lexa is being used as a pawn to get Quinn to come in, all while being pumped with misinformation. And Quinn is being held back from rushing headlong into getting her out as soon as humanly possible. The Quad wants them alive and together and the rebels do too. And all Lexa and Quinn, especially, want is to be around one another and live peacefully without all the political intrigue.
FLOVE Quinn. I loved him in Unstrung, I completely and utterly fell in love with him in Unfinished. And I promise that THAT emotion carries over into Uprising. His frustration and his fear and his worry are almost palpable. And poor Lexa. The poor girl doesn’t know which end is up, and honestly, when we’re in her head space, we really have a hard time knowing which end is up too. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the characters, Jole is really a shining star for me in this book. I know he was adamant that he was capable in the first, but in this he REALLY shows himself MORE than capable.
Ms. Highley is keeping me on my toes with this series. I love Lexa and Quinn and Joel and Doc and now Rusty, and I’m not sure how I feel about Julia, but I do like Marco. She just has this ability to make these characters emotions feel so real like they were my own. When Lexa was angry, I was angry. When Quinn was desperate, I was desperate. When Lexa was sad and filled with self-loathing. I was sad, and just wanted to hug her. I really love this series! And I can’t wait to get this book in paperback to go with my other. Preferably signed! So, YES, I do recommend this series! READ IT!!!
I went into this expecting to enjoy it - I liked book 1 and I enjoyed the Monster Hunter series by the author. I was pleasantly impressed - I not only liked this, but I grew to like the main characters, Lexa and Quinn, much more. This book did wonders on developing the complexity of the characters - making them more real. They may be engineered to be "better" humans, but inside they're just as human as any of us.
I can't go into the plot without giving away any secrets, but the bad guys got badder, the good guys good allies and Quin and Lexa... got each other. And then the book ends, leaving you wanting more. And now I have to wait and wait and wait... *sobs*
