I bought this book expecting a collection of beautiful photographs from various abandoned locations, industrial or otherwise. What I learned after reading from cover to cover is that 80% or more of the images are thumbnail size. How in the hell am I suppose to enjoy a photograph if I can barely see it? This book would get four stars if all of the images were a reasonable size.
The cover image is absolutely beautiful, I'd buy a print. The cover image is not an indication of the photos within though, as the rest of the book features sub-par work.
Each location featured gets approximately 1-2 pages of imagery, and 1-2 paragraphs of location history. Personal preference, some of the places featured deserve more photos, and some less. This format is strict and merciless, I found myself asking why equal emphasis was applied to all of Dan Haga's adventures, when some places noticeably deserve more attention. The historical tidbits become dry and boring, I'd rather hear about Mr. Haga's experience and maybe some photograph tech.
In summary, I wanted a book focused on adventure and photography, and what I got was a poorly designed website surrogate. I've seen what this book offers a hundred thousand times on any urban exploration website the internet has to offer.
