Frequently Asked Questions
What is the shelf life of Urnex products?
All formulas have been tested and approved for a 24 month shelf life under room temperature conditions. On occasion, powder products stored in hot and humid warehouses maryexperience clumping. If this occurs there is no effect on the product's performance, but the power must be agitated to return to its original form.
How often should I clean my commercial brewer?
Commercial brewers should be cleaned each night after service. This will prevent the accumulation of stale coffee oils which can impact the taste of the next day's brews. Weekly, take off removable parts such as site glasses, etc. and give these a thorough cleaning as well. Finally, always remember to wipe down the area around the spray head (above the brew basket), as splashed- back coffee can accumulate there as well.
How often should I clean my commercial espresso machine?
Commercial espresso machines should be cleaned by back flushing with espresso machine detergent each night. Nightly back flushing will prevent the accumulation of stale coffee oils in the group heads, shower screens and filter baskets of your espresso machine. Keeping these parts clean is essential to maintaining great tasting coffee over time. Weekly, you should soak portafilters and baskets in a solution of espresso machine detergent and water.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
It was used on a DeLonghi 32BAR that I've had for about 2 years now. I had used vinegar and baking soda to clean it in the past. However, it had begun to brew very slowly. The company gave some advice as to how to use their cleaner. They were contacted, as the lower frothing screen is different the the normal baskets in other machines.
It started to work almost immediately. However, it did take about 3 days, one run a day in the lower basket frother screen only, to free up the clogs in that lower plate. It now brews the way it did when I first bought it. Further, the screen looks like it did on that first day.
A caution: I've seen a review where the product doesn't have a taste. But, per the label, it is not people friendly. Make sure all components where the product is used are rinsed very well.
BTW, this product costs about the same as a replacement screen for the DeLonghi. And, based on the very little I've needed to use for the cleaning, it should last a very long time. I don't think I used a teaspoon so far. That's 4 lower screen cleanings, plus 1 full clean.
Besides espresso machines, I've also used it for moka pots.
On a side note, after cleaning the portafilter and all baskets, I dumped the solution into the garbage disposer and waited minutes before running it. After that, the 10 year old disposer works way better than before. Maybe the Cafiza dissolved grease and gunk that made it sound awful when activated.
This detergent works extremely well for cleaning the portafilters and anything else that comes in contact with coffee.
