Avoid this LED bulb. It might cost less than other LED bulbs, but it lasted only 3 days. That's a cost of about $7 per day, hardly worth the price

I have spent the last decade slowly converting to compact fluorescent light bulbs. As one of the tragically lame incandescent bulb would burn out, I would replace it with the curly majesty of the compact fluorescent light bulb. Now, as time has marched its ever so steady rhythm through my life and my home, one day I noticed a change that was large enough to stand out. It had been a long day at work, ten solid ours of chit-chat and and senses of completion. Through my now unlocked door, I passed through my living room and went to the kitchen to deposit the bottle wine that I got on the way home. Click. I flipped the switch to activate the over head light, and at a time in which I should have been being bathed in warm light, I was instead greeted by a pallor that was reminiscent of a funeral home. Shocked and saddened, I studied the light fixture. I made a plan. I raised a chair from the kitchen table and dispatched it a spot almost directly below the origin of that offensive light. I assessed the fixture once I was perched atop the chair. Gently, slowly I twisted the decorative bulbous nut from the treads of the central bolt. Then it was on to the actual nut that keeps the softly frosted glass globe securely affixed to the superstructure of the fixture. With great care, the nut was coming off, one half revolution at a time. Finally I was back on Terra Firma, cradling the soft matte finished, glass globe. Back in the air, I grasped the bulb. I was firm, but not rough. Unwinding the threads of the bulb from their mates in the fixture, I had it out in a matter of seconds. "Simple", I thought to myself. But I was wrong. I ambled into the utility room in search of my seemingly limitless supply of compact fluorescent bulbs.Read more ›

60 watt equivalents are supposed to be 800 lumens but this bulb is even brighter at 925 lumens (I used a lumen tester). It produces a nice, bright even light.

See the picture above for real-world performance comparison to Utilitech's cheaper #0472703 bulb, available at Lowe's.

These 60W bulbs are quite heavy and have sizable heatsink bases on them. They are also less bulb-like than the current crop of 40W LEDs, as well as a different visual look, i.e., the LED cluster is somewhat visible inside the base and the metal disc near the top bisects the light output (limiting that claimed 300degree throw),while the 40s are totally homogeneous and seem to have better than 270 degree throw.

The ones I've bought from this company have lasted plenty long so far. And if you put it on a dimmer be SURE you use a LED compatible dimmer. Regular dimmers will work, but very significantly reduce brightness even at max value.

Got this at Lowes for $14.99. Some states had them on sale for $4.99 but don't think they're still offering those rates. Like all LED bulbs, these get really hot to the touch! Seems hotter than incandescent and fluorescent imo. The bulb has 32 little led diodes inside. It is very heavy, but much smaller than the outdoor halogen it replaced. Not much to say about a light bulb except that this one uses very little power and its design disperses the light into a 300 degree range.
