I've read some of the one star reviews and almost all complained that the grill rusted after washing, you're supposed to dry it and season immediately folks. The seasoning will also take care of the whole meat sticking to the grill problem, which was another common complaint. The rust is not due to the products quality (which I found to be high), ALL CAST IRON RUSTS if it is not dried right after.
Cast iron requires high maintenance, so if you're not willing to put in a little work then avoid cast iron products completely. This cast iron grill is great.
This needs to be seasoned! Rub vegetable all over it and bake at 375 for one hour. Pull out after 30 minutes of shutting it off and rub oil all over again and wipe.
I added pictures after I seasoned it.
The skillet is two-sided. There's a flat side and a "grill" side. You can only use one side at the time, obviously.
I have a standard size electric stove with one large and one small burner on each side. The griddle is not long enough to go over both burners at the same time. Both ends will get hot but there's a small section in the middle that doesn't reach the same temperature, it stays cooler. I also used it with as much of the griddle as possible on the larger burner and the rest of the griddle on the middle of the stove, not touching the other burner. That creates a cooler spot to store the food and keep it warm. This actually works out well for me.
The griddle has a depression around the perimeter to catch excess juice/oil from the cooking process. Overly fatty foods will make too much grease and will spill over. This griddle is heavy and hard to lift and drain during the cooking process. It is a standard cast iron cooker and cleans up just as any other would. You can use metal utensils with it without damaging it. It is NOT non-stick. It will rust if you don't keep it seasoned and dry during non-use.

You have to keep it well oiled to prevent rust if you decide to let it soak for a bit to ease off cooked food. You really shouldn't let it soak, but sometimes it's a must because you don't want to scrape it off with anything that will mess with the surface. I get perfect steaks every time I use this. It took me some time to get the smoking levels down in the house (apartment looked like we put out a forest fire the first few times) but now it's manageable. Expect smoke when cooking meat. It's unavoidable, but it's worth it. And grilled vegetables? I can't eat corn on the cob any other way since I purchased this. Highly recommend.
