Foldable, closed-back high quality headphones with very exclusive design and extraordinary sound, offering the highest standard of technologies: S-Logic Natural Surround Sound Plus MU Metal shielding (ULE-technology) Safer hearing Technical specifications S-Logic Natural Surround Sound Plus Dynamic principle Frequency range 15-25.000 Hz Impedance 75 Ohm Sound pressure level 99 dB MU Metal bufferboard, reduced field emissions in accordance with ULE (=Ultra Low Emission) standard Driver 40 mm gold-plated Weight 285 g (without cord) Straight cord, length ca 3 m 3,5/6,3 mm screwable gold-plated plug Transportation bag Demo CD Instruction manual Long-term availability of spare parts Character Eye-catching exclusive design and sand-grey coated. Experience the complete isolation of closed-back headphones and the honest sound of open ones. The high class gold-plated drivers of the HFI-680 are very sensitive and provide a maximum of transparency. ULE-technology To understand what ULE-technology does, you need to know that most headphone drivers produce low-frequency magnetic fields as they convert an electric signal into an acoustical signal you hear as music. In response, Ultrasone developed a special MU Metal shielding (ULE-technology) to reduce the radiation by up to 98% compared to current headphones. The ULE-technology has stood the test of international review and is recommended by technical surveillance organisations. S-Logic Plus S-Logic Plus is the enhanced version of the S-Logic System. The specific acoustically designed earcups of the new HFI models and their stereo tonal fine tuning of the acoustic reinforcing devices present sophisticated sound and technology. Due to an additional damping, drivers and the bufferboard complement one another with the new spatial sounding unit. The final result is a most neutral sound impression including optimized distance perception of voices and instruments.

1. Easy to drive...so you do not need to have a separate headphone amp, although most headphones will sound better with one. Sounds great on iPhones and iPods.

2. Big bass! So if you listen to dance, electronic or rock etc. you will like these earphones. Bass is controlled well though...not 'boomy' or sloppy as per the HiFi780.

3. High end can sound a little sharp to start with, but after a few months of use they will soften. Mid's are good...controlled and detailed.

4. Well made. Solid construction...they do not creak or feel cheap...very much the opposite.

5. Comfortable to wear, although the headband can be tight at first...again though this will loosen as you wear them. i left mine one an arm chair arm over night...and they feel much better now. This sounds a bit stupid, but its very common for the manufacturer to have the headband air on the smaller side, as its easy to stretch them to fit a larger head...but hard to shrink them for a smaller head.

Overall I am really happy with these earphones and I think anyone that listens to electronic music will be as well. Amazon also has the best price I could find! $140 (US) from Amazon....they sell for almost $400 in Australia. Thats a huge saving and an absolute steel for the quality of these earphones.

This is my go-to pair of headphones for overall listening. I will compare them to Sennheiser HD419, Superlux 668B, Superlux HD660, Audio-technica AD500.

From the list, the HFI-680, HD419, HD660 are closed, 668B is semi open, and the AD500 are open dynamic headphones. The difference between the open and closed headphones is usually night and day. The open cans have a wide soundstage and an airy feeling while the closed have better low end performance. Consequently, open cans are used for instrumental/classical music while closed headphones are better suited for bass heavy, electronic music.

The HFI-680's are closed and hence, clearly stand out for electronic music. The bass is tighter and there is more of it compared to the HD419. The HD660 has a very similar bass response but the 680's have another advantage, soundstage. The S-Logic design creates an auditory illusion of openness. It is very convincing. This bleeds into the realm of open headphones and takes away some of their specialty. The Ad500 has a much wider soundstage than the 680's but has the disadvantage of leaking sound (there is no isolation) and lacks bass performance. The semi-open 668B's somewhat try to address both ends and are great headphone, but compared to the 680's, both high and low end lack refinement. Ultrasone has somehow made the sound coming out of these cans smooth and engaging at the same time.

A major downside of this headphone is the comfort. The clamping force is extremely high. I had to stretch them out over a couple nights just to be able to wear them comfortably for a few hours. The pads are very comfortable and do offer good sound isolation.

i am NOT an audiophile. i don't know what to listen for what everyone else hears.
i love these headphones. i guess these are more like monitoring headphones and are pretty even. there's a youtube of dave rat testing the 15g, 780, and 680. just search "dave rat mighty headphone quest part 2"

i'm not good with bassy sounds because my ears don't hear them well and they get mottled. i have to turn down the bass on my tv and turn up the treble so i can more clearly. i have 3 ultrasones including the 15g, 780, and now the 680. apparently all bassy but they sound clean to me and i love the way the bass sounds. the guy on the youtube video says the 780's have a hifi sound and i think i understand where he's coming from. but the 680's are great and deliver just what i want. for me they're perfect. i thought the 75ohm impedance would be a problem ....they're not. they're snug but i have a big head

i listen to 50/60's oldies,,,broadway,,,jazz,,,jazz vocals,,,classical especially string quartets, but some more orchestral

cable length.
the headband runs wide and not around the head so they have a bigger silhoette.
pros....VERY handsome looking

As a large fan of the ultrasone brand and sound I have owned or still owned many of the hfi and pro series.

This particular model often gets over looked in reviews etc so I thought I would get it in to try.

Does it look anything special , no
Is it made in Germany, no
Does it have a long non detachable cable That can get in the way , yes
Does it sound good direct to mp3 source , average to others

But does it sound better amped , yes

Running this off a cowon x7 through a little dot iv amp it performs almost as well in my opinion as the pro 750.

Switching back to a non amped source and the whole depth of the bass and treble declines and it becomes what others would describe as muddy in sound.

This is a really good headphone for the price but only if you can afford to amp.

Others have said theses are not comfortable, I have found isolation and comfort very good and much better than the pro series.

Does not like poor quality bit rate sources for music but if you can not afford the pro 750,900 this is a good option. I have found this to be a much better sound than the hfi 780 if amped.

EDIT , after a few weeks burn in, the performance direct with mp3 sources was significant. I did some direct comparisons with the pro 900 and they very close. These have quickly become one of my favorite cans when wanting a closed sound.
If you can get for the right price you won't regret it.
