The overall size isn't bad at all. It's big enough to catch your attention, yet small enough to not mind carrying it around.
I mainly use potable speakers for work. I work as a tech at a dealership, so I need something small to maintain my work space. I personally like using Bluetooth just for the ease of answering calls/texts when I need to. V-MODA offers a stable Bluetooth setup. So much so that in one of our shops, I stood 100' away, phone in hand, and it was still playing!
One thing I love about the REMIX is that the quality of sound in phenomenal. While I'm in my work area, it sounds like a full stereo system! Miss and highs are clearly played and lows can be felt in a close distance. Yes, in a good acoustical area, I could feel the bass a little! I typically like my music loud, so I assumed the REMIX would bother the other techs. I was wrong, it didn't overpower background noise at all. But when my shop 10,000 sq ft+ was empty, I could hear my music everywhere!
I won't deny, I was skeptical of how well it would sound with so many components being made from a 3D printer. But I was dumbfounded.
The REMIX advertises a 10 hour play time. So I put it to work for a whole week. Plug it in before bed and then take it to work. It made it through 10 hour days (lunch included, so it got a constant 10 hours without a break) without an issue. According to my iPhone, it still had 25-30% battery left.
Sounds phenomenal, Bluetooth is reliable, and the battery lasts longer than advertised (even when it's Bluetooth'd all day). I'd be hard pressed to find another portable speaker that contends with the REMIX.
One thing I didn't want to test, is the rigidity of the REMIX. But it sure would be cool to know if it could withstand a minor impact.
I'm using a Fiio X3 gen 1 with various high quality auido tracks here ripped from CD's as apple lossless, along with regular mp3. The highs sound trapped, its like they want to come out but there's not the right equipment to let them out. Mids are fine, it sounds like what most V-moda products produce. Now the bass, the main force that makes me buy product after product from these guys. Its almost there, almost. I know this is a wireless bluetooth speaker and its not like I can draw wall current from it to make a 2 inch speaker sound like my 10 inch sub. But its just not there, it really depended on who i played to kinda hear it. Hip hop artists are kinda iffy, electronic was hit and miss. I seemed to hit it better with artists that I usually don't expect with vmoda product. I wonder if daisy chaining would help, but I could have made a car payment and bought a month of gas for this, so its something I wouldn't test till they make the v2.
Various songs tested with the product and file
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - All Blues - Lossless (CD)
Michael Jackson - BAD - Just good friends - Lossless (CD 80's Japanese copy, figured I would mention)
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories - Within - Lossless (CD)
Alice in Chains - Unplugged - Would? - Lossless (CD)
Ape Escape - Originape soundtrack - Cryptic Ruins - Lossy (itunes)
Rush - Moving Pictures - Tom Sawyer - Lossless (Vinyl Rip)
To start...the fit and finish of the device is quite good. I ordered the Black Leather one, which may have been a mistake given it's going to be a garage based sound system. Lots of dust! But that's my own issue, not the speaker's. It's a bit bigger than the Soundlink Mini, but the sound goes significantly louder...which was my end goal, so I can deal with the bigger size. My one complaint about the physical design is that one of the torx screws on the bottom wasn't threaded all of the way in, which resulted in the device wobbling on the table. I found the right torx size and got it in properly and all was well. Hopefully it was just a one time thing.
The sound quality is fantastic. The bass is by far the best part of this little device. It's shockingly clear and accurate...way moreso that the Soundlink Mini. It hits pretty hard and deep for something so small. If you stick the device in a corner or closer to a wall it actually shakes the desk/workbench. The mids and highs are equally as good...very good for male vocals (which is all I listen to really) and the highs are crisp and clear and they extend very well. Overall the sound is nice and balanced with a slight emphasis on the bass, like most V-MODA products. Of all of the mini portable BT speakers I've heard, the Remix is quite a bit better than the rest (I've had the Beats Pill, a Sony one and the Soundlink Mini so far).
One of the other great features is the built in VAMP (amplifier). I have a set of M-Audio AV40 powered speakers that I use in my backyard when we have parties/bbqs. Before I had to have my phone or ipad connected up to them. Now I just sit the Remix next to the speakers and I can connect whatever device I want via BT and it just plays perfectly! More sound than I'd ever need in my backyard. I'm sure the neighbors already hate me.
My one gripe w/ the device is the startup/pairing/shutdown sounds. WAY too loud. Borderline obnoxious. I wish there was a way to turn that off.
All that said, its a fantastic portable speaker that I recommend highly. I'm extremely picky when it comes to sound and functionality and the Remix ticks all of those boxes and then some. Features like the built in amp for headphones/speakers really is a game changer.

Definitely not worth $250 + tax.
This one from V-MODA comes nicely boxed, and inside you get a flat, rubberised USB charging cable, aux cable and two square rubber ends to affix over the speaker. They're red in colour and you can easily switch them for the black ones already on the speaker if you wish. I prefer the black ones and in my opinion this feature is a bit gimmicky.
Setup was super quick and easy. Simply power the unit on by pressing a button on the speaker, press pair and search for the speaker on your device. It connects instantly. There are some strange sounds emitted by the speaker to indicate different functions such as power on and off.
The speaker itself is made of metal. This makes it stylish and sleek looking but also quite heavy. While not particularly big, this speaker is quite heavy and therefore rules out being portable. This is not the kind of speaker you could pack in a bag for a day at the beach or park.
On the top of the speaker is a control panel. This features a power button, pair button and up/down for volume. On the front are inputs for USB charging, aux in and v-amp.
Sound quality is impressive for a small speaker. It's more than loud enough with good bass, however I found the treble a bit screechy and when cranked up there is a noticeable sound distortion. It's nothing too major but something you don't really get with speakers from Harmon Kardon or Bose.
You get a 1 year warranty on this speaker which is a bit stingy considering it's not cheap. I would have expected at least two years.
The manufacture claims 10 hrs battery life from this, I got just over 9 but was playing music quite loud so 10 hours at a quieter volume seems about right.
Overall, a stylish and well made speaker. It's not amazing and whilst not very portable, it's versatile. You can use Bluetooth or aux-in and the inclusion of a good quality aux in cable is welcome. I'm not totally convinced it's worth the price tag but it looks good, sounds good and is well made. Please see attached photo with a lighter for size comparison. One to consider
