Quality: Sound quality is the best I've heard for in-ear phones. Crisp highs, balanced mid-tones, and smooth deep bass (no distortion common to some earphones).
Build quality & durability is excellent. You will have a hard time breaking these - solid metal construction with Kevlar fabric covered cables (with more than ample length). Only exception is the spring-loaded plastic cable clip with a friction type clip for the cable. It's design seems more of an afterthought, but it works acceptably for taming your cables and keeping the mic/remote available. The stitched flat leather carrying case is a plus and fits neatly into a hip pocket or jacket. The set came with a two-year full replacement warranty.
Fit/Function: Includes two pairs each of four different sizes of silicone buds, so fit is not a problem. Integrated remote/mic is easy to use with silicone covered buttons that are easy to find by feel. Mic quality is not excellent, but good enough for those occasional calls during your listening sessions. The gold-plated, 45-degree offset plug works well, easily clearing the protective phone case and putting the cable at a more natural angle away from my belt-carried phone. They come with rubber sport loops to help manage the cables and provide more security when jogging, etc. I'm not using them myself, but I would recommend them when doing vigorous activity. This is not so much because the earphones fall out, but more to reduce any noise passed from the friction of the braided cable on your clothing.
Value: For me, "good" to "very good", not "excellent". If you demand superb sound quality AND don't want to worry about having to replace your phones any time soon, they will probably be worth it to you. But the fact is, I can probably buy two sets of earphones that sound "almost" as good for the price of one set of Vibratos.
Pros: Superior sound quality, excellent durability, good ergonomics
Cons: Some friction noise from braided cable. Needs better cable clip
The earbuds I've had in the past never seated themselves properly in my ears. Basically it boils down to the fact that most of them come with 3 sizes of buds. Small, medium, and large. I usually settle on medium. Large gives a better seal, but I'd have to really jam them in there and it would start hurting after an hour or so of use. The V-MODA comes with 4 sizes of buds. The forth size is between medium and large. It's a pefect fit for me. It creates a great seal that cuts out the noise around me and offers really deep bass. They are very comfy. Even after a long session in the gym. Speaking of the gym, I didn't have to reseat them to fix poor sound because they had slipped out of my ears from movement or pull them out of my ears due to discomfort.
With earbuds, to me, it's all about creating a good seal to get the most out of the sound. With the V-MODA you get a lot of options in bud size to get a nice seal. Once I did that it sounded like I was wearing can style headphones. Very deep, tight bass (without overpowering everything else). Crisp mids and great highs. As others have said you'll hear nuances in music you didn't really notice before. I mostly listen to rock and metal. Everything sounded better on V-MODA vs my Bose.
Here's a bit of stumble in my opinion. You have 3 buttons. Volume up/down and a center button (which allows you to answer the phone and foward/reverse music) The controls themselves are fine. One up and one down for volume. The center button you click once to use the phone, twice to skip a music track, three times to go step back a track. They are on the small side for people with big mitts like me. They're fine controls. Useable. The main gripe is they're too far up on the cord. Almost dangling near your face. It's probably because that's where the microphone is for calls. I would have liked a separate design with the controls a bit lower down the cord.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and, at this time, I think my quest for awesome earbuds has come to an end.
