The instruction manual is pretty poor but anyone with a little computer network savvy should be able to get it working. But note that this isn't a plug and play device - you'll have to enter some network information so if you don't know how your home network is set up and you don't know how to work with networks including setting a static IP on your PC and also aren't inclined to learn how to do so then don't buy this.
The instruction booklet is confusing. To use the Vonets to convert a wired network device to wireless the instructions refer to it as "WiFi AP". So follow the section titled "3. The application configuration of AP".
What that section fails to mention for the rookies is that before logging into the configuration page you need to set your PC to a fixed 192.168.254.x IP first (i.e. 192.168.254.10 - any number 1-253 will work as the last octet/digit). (if you don't know how to do this Google "set static ip windows" or "set static ip linux") If you don't set your PC to a 192.168.254.x IP first you won't be able to connect to the device via the network cable.
I plugged the dongle network cable into my PC LAN port and plugged in the USB connector for power. I then entered http://192.168.254.254 IP for the device into my browser URL address bar which brings you to the configuration page for the device.
In the configuration you connect the dongle to your existing WiFi first. It's easiest to access an IP camera (or printer) that has a fixed/static IP and my IP camera already had a fixed IP. I opted to also set a static IP for the dongle on my home network outside of my wireless router DHCP range so that I could easily access the device's configuration page later if needed. (That means I ended up with two fixed IPs - one for the IP camera and one for the Vonets dongle - I still connect to my IP camera with the same IP as when it wired.) After the initial setup it rebooted and connected after a pause. Instantly my wired IP camera had became a WiFi IP camera!
I'm not running this continuously, but every time I power the dongle back on with my camera it connects right up to my WiFi AP and runs great! I've had no problems with the connectivity of the Vonets dongle.
For those instead recommending the IOGEAR GWU637 note that although it undoubtedly sounds easier to get working it's also more than twice the price of this device, so I'd say it's not a fair comparison.
So if you're a novice and you're willing to do a little research and work you can get this device working and save yourself a fair chunk of change. For the tech savvy I don't see any downsides, especially at this price. This device is a winner!

After my horrible experience with this product, I promptly boxed it back up and returned it to sender. In the meantime, I got back on and found another product of which I just received today & I had it set up in less than 5mins, not hours, but minutes. If you don't want to have the same experience I did and can afford paying the few extra bucks....and trust me, it's worth it, then look up the IOGEAR Universal Ethernet Adapter. My ethernet-dependent printer is printing like a dream now all thanks to this little handy device. Take a look at the attached photo and get one for yourself. You'll thank me later for doing the right thing by not just using my comments to complain, but to offer a better solution.

On the box there is a label that has been stuck on that has the correct markings but on the device itself they are incorrect/fake.
The Spacing on the CE mark is incorrect and after a quick search on the internet I found it simply means “Chinese export” which is what Chinese manufacturers are putting on their non certified electrical devices to purposefully fool consumers into thinking their devices have been certified to be safe when actually they haven’t. I’m guessing the FCC logo is the same story as when you look carefully the logo on the dongle is not the same as the official logo.
I don’t know if the dongles are legitimately certified to be safe or not all I know is that the markings on the box label are correct but on the device they are fake and for that reason I chose to return it and buy a trusted brand instead. If you plan on leaving this device on all the time and unattended then I suggest you do the same.
The CCTV recorder had no WIFI capability only ethernet and I did not want to trail leads around the house.
I had good WiFi where the CCTV unit was , so I needed a dongle to convert wireless to an Ethernet connection.
This unit worked straight out of the box, its very small and is powered by USB or it has an external socket within its power lead as well (there is no 5v power plug provided) this was not a problem as there was a spare USB socket on the CCTV unit.
Connected the unit via its ethernet lead to my laptop powered it by USB and then connected to via its own WiFi, set it up to connect to my house WiFi and that was it, plugged it into my CCTV Ethernet port and it connected straight through as if it were a wired Ethernet connection.Job Done!....spot on! can now see my cameras over the internet. excellent
Having said that, it works brilliantly. I bought this when the wifi module on my Samsung telly decided to die. As my TV is wall mounted, without an Ethernet cable chased into the wall, I wanted to use the smart features, but didn't want an ugly Ethenet cable dangling from the set.
This unit plugs into the Ethernet socket of the TV and uses the USB output for power. My Samsung doesn't pump out huge amperage over USB, but it's enough to power this (for reference, I get the lower power warning from a Fire TV stick from the same USB socket).
Set up is a bit of a faff. You need to plug the unit into a PC before you connect it to your TV to put in the wifi password. Look at some of the other reviews here for the best info on doing that (thanks fellow reviewers). But once done, it was plug and play in the TV. The connection was rock solid, and way better than when the TV's own wifi module worked.
I bought this dongle with next day delivery, it was easy to set up and connected to the kitchen printer and after a couple of minutes it started working, orders started going through to the printer from the tills.
It’s so easy to do, luckily the WiFi signal is quite strong. I’ll definitely get these again instead of trailing cables everywhere.
