Unfortunately, these are not quite what I had hoped. I got the 'one size fits all' size, and they are definitely big enough for my 9 inch 'hand span' hand (thumb tip to pinky tip). Largeness is not necessarily an issue though if they were a little more malleable and had more 'give' to them. Right now, they are extremely stiff which kind of inhibits my ability to grab pan handles and retain the dexterity that I had hoped. These gloves make me feel a little but clumsy, and I do not have confidence in them. Maybe this will change as I 'break them in'?
In terms of functionality. They keep your hands cool, even when inserted into a 450 degree oven. I have not had any heat issues grabbing pans up to 475 degrees. The rubber 'grippy' part of the gloves does seem to increase traction when grabbing pots and pans. The gloves come on and off rather easily, and do not stick to my hand. The interior does have a little bit of grip to it, so getting the gloves off easily isn't how I would describe it; but it isn't hard by any means.
Definitively keeps my hands safe up to 475 degrees (package says 425)
The grip on the gloves does increase traction when grabbing items
Gloves do not smell, are dishwasher safe, and soemwhat easy to get on and off
Gloves are very stiff, inhibiting the natural dexterity of my hand
One size fits all is not very effective -- they are too big (maybe this is the reason they are too stiff for me...because they are too big)
Closing Remarks: I am hoping that over time these will break-in a bit and give me a wider range fo motion with my hand. In terms of doing what they are meant to do, I would have to recommend them. I am still glad that I threw-away my old and nasty pot holders. For the price (twenty bills), this was a nice try. If they do not break-in, I will just try another pair.
Now imagine me, trying to wrestle the dang thing out of the smoker into an uncooperative pan with the dog panting and waiting for me to drop it.
I know these are just gloves...but they are game changers if you like meat (yes, I did read the new WHO report on the perils of bacon and red meat and could give you long arguments why it is misleading). Since it's November, I cannot wait to take my Thanksgiving turkey out of the pan without 3 people, 6 forks and a couple of supporting spatulas (and a big giant mess). I suppose you could even use them as regular hot pads for regular hot dishes too.
Advantages are the glove design, protecting the top of my hands as I reach for things on middle shelves; the non-slip pattern on the glove (fairly effective, though still a bit slippery), and the way the silicone protects from heat. I am no longer shopping for a replacement, as I have been for all previous kitchen potholders and mitts I've tried.
Disadvantages? Well, if I had the power to redesign them, I'd make them a tad longer (maybe an inch) and experiment with other patterns - maybe a cross-hatch design - that might be even less slippery (though I do love the little hearts as a design). I do have to put down a really hot dish after a few minutes, or I really begin to feel the heat through the glove. But it doesn't burn, and I have plenty of time to set the dish down on the stove or even carry it to the table. I'd still recommend them - and plan on buying some for Christmas stockings next year, since everyone in the family cooks and bakes, and we are all engaged in the search for the perfect potholder or glove.
