I love this box

I love this box
I had an old monitor from '04 laying around collecting dust, and I decided to put it to good use. I decided to see if there existed a product to connect a video game system to a computer monitor. I discovered this VGA box. Its just what I needed.. You can hook up 4 systems (I myself have 3 I want to use with this) and just a button to switch between them. It displays picture fine, I can't really tell if any quality is lost or anything, but to me it looks great. Set-up was easy, I just needed an audio cable, which I had laying around. I notice no lag or interference in audio or video, I'm completely satisfied with this. The only negative thing I can find is that the picture isn't perfectly centered when I switch inputs (probably half an inch of black space on one of the sides), but my monitor can auto-adjust it to center with a button press so it's really not a problem for me. I'm now back to playing some classic video games, I couldn't be happier with this product.

I ordered this device to play my old video game systems on and so far it is working very well. I tested it today with an old Playstation 2 and it worked great. I tried out a PS2 game and a PS1 game. They both looked very good. There is possibly a slight fuzziness introduced, but that doesn't really matter for the types of games you are likely to play on this system.

I saw another review that said that this device doesn't work on widescreen monitors, but it seems just fine hooked up to my widescreen 24" Dell monitor. The game image doesn't quite fill the screen and leaves a little black border around the edge, but it still fills the majority of the monitor screen. I didn't notice any distortion in the picture.

I didn't test the VGA pass-through to hook your computer up through the device while you are using it, but I did use the audio passthrough. The sound is great through my PC speakers. The input switching buttons are also very convenient.

I was very impressed by the sturdiness of the device. It feels very solid and doesn't tip over easily. The AC adapter is small and unobtrusive. The company is kind enough to throw in a VGA cable if you don't already have a spare.

Overall, I would definitley recommend this for playing old school games. This is what I bought it for; so, I am very happy with my purchase.

I got this converter so that I could hook up my Wii and my PS2 to my PC screen and speakers. It works alright for that purpose, although it isn't perfect. I have an LCD screen with a native resolution of 1920x1080, so it's a bit blurry showing a standard definition TV signal. I expected it to be a little bit sharper than it is though.

The converter box has a button to change between different resolutions, but I can't find any way to tell for sure which resolution it's currently set to (it doesn't say on the screen or on the box itself). I don't notice any real difference in image quality between the resolutions either, which surprised me because for PC games there's a noticeable difference between 640x480 and 1024x768.

Aside from the images being a bit blurrier than I wanted, the games are playable and the in-game text is readable, so it's good enough. I just wish the image was a little bit sharper.

Edit: I tried it out again today and it's still blurry, but it's not as noticeable if I sit further back from the screen than I usually do (which is probably a good thing with the Wii controls anyway).

Also, I forgot to say before, but I am only using the VGA box for my Wii and PS2. The PC is hooked up to my screen directly through DVI, and I'm switching the speaker cable back and forth between the PC and the VGA box depending on what I'm doing. I think this is the best way to set it up because the PC is capable of a better image through DVI, so I haven't tested the VGA box's PC feed as I won't be using it myself. My rating is based solely on the VGA box's performance with connecting my Wii and PS2 to the monitor and speakers.

-The lame seller didn't even send this product and said they were out of stock when the listing said they had it (I did get refunded though, so not all was lost). I've used this product at a relatives house and did notice the compatibility was not good on this product especially older game consoles. Save your money and go with the V2V pro which is a better product (though less connection inputs) but has much better compatibility with older game consoles (Super Famicom, PC-Engine, NEO GEO AES, etc.).

Overall quality of this thing is pretty poor. It doesn't even have a power switch, so you just have to unplug it to turn it off. The video quality from my playstation 2 is terrible on my 19 inch lcd, blurred and somewhat distorted. The picture actually looks much better on my old cheap tv set. I've toyed around with monitor settings and even tried a different vga cable, but couldn't get any significant improvements. Unless you just dont care about picture quality, you should continue your search. This device wont give you what your looking for.

My roommates and I decided that we would use my 22" monitor and buy a VGA box rather than buy a whole new tv for our game systems. While this was certainly MUCH more cost effective, on the whole we were a little less than impressed.

Pros:
VERY convenient - rather than unplugging and plugging systems to our old TV with only one input, this allows you to hook up 4 systems via composite, and one via VGA (I pass through my 360 in this way and it looks great). Also, all the sound is output through one 1/8" plug so we don't need to switch the speakers either. (Note: If you're using a VGA enabled system like we did, you will have to hook up your speakers in a different way for this system as there are no audio inputs next to the VGA port. Fortunately my speakers have both an auxiliary input and a standard 1/8" plug) Obviously this is functionality that you would expect out of a receiver, but for college students without such a thing, this was a blessing.

Colors are very bright and vibrant, at least compared to the 20 year old TV we used to play on.

Cons:
With my monitor at least, there was no real way to display the image correctly. The box outputs at 800x600 but I have a 16:10 monitor that thinks that all inputs should full the screen. As such, by default everything is a stretched out mess. There is a way I discovered in the manual menus to shrink the image horizontally, but this introduces vertical banding and it's not very pleasant to look at. While the composite video output is very soft and blurry (particularly so with a PS2, not so bad for Wii/GC), the Xbox 360 passed through looks sharp as a tack.

All in all it is not an ideal solution, especially if you are looking to use a widescreen monitor to play standard def consoles on. I was lucky that my monitor gave me some wiggle room in squishing it back to 4:3, but otherwise I would have been SOL.

In hind sight, we probably would have put the $X this cost towards a TV/receiver option, but it wasn't worth the hassle it would have taken to return it and all the shipping costs it would entail.
