Everything needs to be done within one hour after that you have to wait seven days to apply any more coats
Preparation is key
I used degreaser, then hot soapy water, Wet sand with 2k paper, wash again in fresh suds. Air Dry
Anyways, the package cam on time as stated. I just used this can yesterday and I must say I was happy with the results. I probably should have bought the darker gray, but I think the color that this one came out to be would be the exact color of my carpet if it were brand new. I plan on buying more and just spraying all the carpet so that it could look the same. I am pretty sure I didn't do the spraying method correctly, BUT I liked the end result. I plan on going back as well and spraying the whole back floor evenly because my main concern was where the bleached area was.
Notes about the product: It does have a moderately strong chemical smell so if you were to use it on something like I car I recommend making sure you let it ventilate. I personally was going to be driving for at least 30 minutes back to my destination after applying this, so I just left the back windows down. I didn't actually do a test touch after applying the dye, so I cannot comment on how long it takes the dry. I am assuming that the ventilation that I provided was enough because this morning when I got up and drove to work the smell was definitely almost completely nonexistent.
Can 1: I followed the directions on the back, took my items outside and cleaned them off with APC and made sure everything was nice and clean and dry. I shook the can for the required min and then applied my light coat followed by the heavy coat as directed. I waited about an hour and repeated for the restoration of one seat. The seat I fixed will be in the photos section of my review so you can see the transformation. I also used this first can on my passenger front seat to touch up areas I had sanded down due to failing leatherette. No problems came from this can, I just needed more coats to cover up the seam left over from the damage on the seat I fixed.
Can 2: Covered the rest of the seat and allowed me to spruce up some much needed things on the rest of my seats, this is where the problems started. Im sure its my fault so thats what the 4 or 5 stars are for. I had peeling and the paint went matte rather then the usual satin shine. I was however, able to buff this out with another leather cleaning product, so dont waste an entire can on fixing those odd matte spots that pop out for no reason, just buff it out when the product is DRY. I got peeling because I buffed too early before the product set.
Can 3: Same issue, I still have about 90% of this can remaining, I needed to touch up my mistake on Can 2. By same issue I mean the paint turned matte, but was bluffable. With every step I used APC before I began. So be careful and take in mind to order at least two cans if your doing touch ups and repairs to your car seats.
This was purchased for a 02 Golf with a 03 Jetta Leatherette swap.
Keep in mind that the transformation was done with sanding before VHT was applied. I didnt just throw VHT on this.
