I bought this unit because my tire has a slow leak, but a lot of tread life left, so I had been filling it once a week at the gas station which cost me around $1 each time. I figured if I needed to do it for more than a year, I might as well get an air pump to save money but needed one that could run off the cigarette lighter port rather than wall power in case I get stranded. I'm glad I chose this unit because it works well and is just what I needed.
The air compressor comes in a zipper top canvas storage bag. It has an attached 10ft cord with the cigarette lighter adapter and a 3’ inflator hose with a standard schrader valve thread tip. The pressure gauge on top is marked in PSI and 100 x kPa. On the back of the unit where the cable comes out is the power switch. Clipped to the sides are two cone adapter tips for filling other things like pool toys. There’s also a sports ball pin inside one of the cone tip, but be careful removing it, because I bent/broke mine when taking it off the unit.
The bag the pump comes in has an inner Velcro pocket that contains the instructions and warranty card. I use this pouch to store the extra tips because it is easier than clipping them to the unit. Note that the Velcro pieces on the inner pocket are oriented in different directions but will still stick together.
The unit is straight forward to use and even has an LED that comes on automatically when you plug it in so you can use the pump at night. It is loud but not obnoxiously so. When filling, the PSI will show slightly higher than resting PSI, so that when you switch it off, the PSI drops a notch. You always have to overfill slightly then check the PSI. If it's too full you can always let some air out. After checking the pressure with another gauge, they agreed so the meter is accurate on the pump. The amount of time it took to go from 26-32 PSI was about 40 seconds. The longest I ran the pump was once after I left on vacation for a few weeks my tire pressure was under 20 PSI and it took about 90 seconds to fill up to the right pressure. The metal part of the unit runs hot so be careful not to touch it after you shut the unit off. Overall, the unit works quickly, is compact and portable weighing about 4 lbs. It has a reach of about 13 feet and I can access all the tires on my sedan without a problem. Since I have a slow leak I’ve been using this 1-2 times per week for 3 months and have not had any issues so far, except for breaking the sports pin when I tried to remove it from the clip initially. Other than that, it works great.
This morning I checked the operating temperature and it was ok to use it in the cold weather we have in the NE. The temperature was 17 F. It was not problem for it to fill the low tires (4) in no time.
The gauge was off for about 4-5 PSI, but I do not know if that was related to the cold temps. I had another one (different brand) and it always was off by 2-3 PSI.
The differential is not a deal breaker, I like the way it performed and it seems very solid, The look and feel is of a much more expensive unit!!!
