Top Customer Reviews
So far it is working great, it was well built, comfortable to wear and looks cool.
It has enough M.O.L.L.E webbing that you can attach a few shotgun shell carriers (have have two 25-round pouches on mine) or whatever else tactical gear you would need to keep with your shotgun.
The scabbard does extend so it can accommodate a longer barrel but I think it works best with an 18" barrel. I don't think you could fit a shotgun with a lot attachments into this scabbard though, maybe a side saddle for extra shells but it would be hard to draw the shotgun from the scabbard.
If you're thinking about getting this I would say go ahead and hit the order button, you won't be disappointed!
One thing I would recommend as a note for future production for NcStar and as a cautionary note for any prospective buyers. The barrel of the shotgun will wear a hole into the nylon because of the weight of the gun being pushed against the bottom of the scabbard, I solved this problem by rolling up a small towel and a bandana and stuffing them in the scabbard, it disperses the weight and also makes the shotgun sit a little higher in the scabbard so it is easier to grab.
Now the biggest thing I was worried about(like I"m sure a lot of people that are looking at this product are)is: WILL MY SHOTGUN FIT? I will tell you this: My 590 is equipped with TacStar 6-shot side saddle, Heavy ported barrel, over-sized ghost ring sights, SureFire Tac light pump, 3-point sling, and a Speed Feed full-sized stock with 4-round capacity on the sides(2 each side). All together, the gun weighs about 10 pounds(fully loaded in all ammo storage areas). With all said items...YES my shotgun does fit! Mind you I had to do some adjustments on the scabbard initially. I recommend that you unbuckle the bottom stopper at the end of the scabbard, unsnap and unzip the retention areas at the top, insert rifle/shotgun, and the close/snap/buckle the aforementioned items. You want to do it SNUGLY! remember, you want to be able to pull your firearm when you need it, but you don't want it falling out! I left my 590 in the scabbard for about a day or two(to let the nylon stretch around the gun). After the initial set-up and breaking in, I could pull my baby out like butter! And yet, still re-sheath it firmly.
Overall to the point stuff:
-Heavy duty nylon(semi water repellant).
-Sturdy hook-snaps on the sling and the D-rings on the scabbard.
-Flexible for most any long gun I can think of.
-Dual-layered Velcro(hook-and-loop) MOLLE fasteners to attach Scabbard to duty/load bearing gear.
-Good value for the price
-Double stitching in SOME areas(stress points for the sling, around the edge of the scabbard itself)
CONS: This is my ONLY reason for the 4 instead of 5. I would really say 4.5/5
-MOLLE loops are only SINGLE stitched(I ended up using the sling primarily. Attempted to attach to my MOLLE LBE. It worked...until I put the 590 in it. Proved to be too heavy. The stitchings in the MOLLE loops began to snap immediately. It would probably work for a lighter gun, and not the "Big Girl" I carry.)
OVERALL: I would highly recommend this scabbard for anyone looking at an inexpensive, yet pretty durable way to carry a long-gun. With as adjustable as the whole thing is, it's NOT just meant for a shotgun!
The material is heavy duty with adequate padding.
