I recently purchased the new VIZIO M220VA 22-inch LED TV, and so far it seems to be a solid performer. Of course, I feel that it is my obligation to point out that this model is NOT meant to be a high-end set. If you purchase this with such an expectation, you will be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a good, affordable LED LCD TV with great picture quality, you would have a difficult time finding a better bang for your buck than this.

Let me start by expressing how very annoyed I get when I read reviews that get so caught up in only pointing out superficial flaws and never even touch upon the most important aspects - picture and sound quality. Yes, this TV does have it's quirks: the remote is a little stiff and can be a little fickle sometimes. The stand is difficult to put on and literally took me a good 15 minutes to figure it out. However, despite these flaws, this television does deliver where it matters.

Picture quality is quite good, especially for a TV in its price range. Standard definition content looks sub-optimal, but this is due to the nature of how SD video is scaled by HDTVs in general, and nothing to do with this model specifically. High-definition content looks excellent, and I have had good experiences watching 720p/1080p movies from my laptop (through the VGA output). The picture is bright, crisp, and contrast is great. Blacks are rich and solid, without losing the subtle detail in the content. Keep in mind, though, that in order to get the most mileage, you will need to spend some time to calibrate the settings to give you an optimal picture quality. Games look great and there is no ghosting with the TV's fast 5ms response time.

I must say that I am very pleased with this TV. It is a perfect fit for a bedroom. I beg to differ with some of the comments about the sound quality. The speakers are in front of the unit, not in the back as with many HDTV's. Yes the sound is a bit tinny, but it does not need to be cranked up to deliver sufficient sound for a 12x12 room. The picture quality is suberb for a smaller screen. The HD 1080p is indeed full HDTV and I am impressed with the LED backlighting. It is also a solid energy saver as it is rated at a 4.0 for energy efficiency. Yes, the remote could be improved, but I have to use a cable remote for my box so that is a non-issue for me. All in all I would definitely recommend this TV for the price. I am very satisfied with its performance thus far.

First of all, John Huang must have gotten his models confused. This unit does not have a detachable base- it is designed to sit on a counter or shelf and the base has two front firing speakers. Perfect for bedroom or kitchen countertop; fits very nicely below wall mounted kitchen cabinets.
The picture quality is superb!! Sharp as a tack and brilliant color, with very rich blacks. Don't know if it's the LED lighting that makes it so good....but it is!
Sound: Far better than many this size which put the speakers on the back or facing down. Very adequate volume, but with 2" speakers you ain't getting audiophile quality.
This is an excellent unit and the low price makes it a superb value.

We bought this TV to go on a wall stand up in the corner of our office. It was to replace a 19 CRT. It didn't work out. The picture has a tendency to be dark and none of the settings gave a bright enough picture. The biggest problem was that when viewed from below (The stand is high on the wall and my wife sits at her computer desk near it) the picture would wash out into darkness to point of being unrecognizable. Angling the screen down helped, but did not cure the problem. We finally put the CRT back and moved the LCD to a spare bedroom where it does double duty as a computer monitor and DVD player. It works OK there, but still has a tendency toward darkness when used as a TV. The built in speakers are rather tinny as well. If I was using it regularly I would probably invest in some sort of powered accessory speakers or entertainment system.

Added 8/6/10. After using this for a few weeks, I still agree with everything I wrote above. I took my own advice and picked up an inexpensive set of powered computer speakers and plugged them into the headset jack (the only option for attaching external speakers). It isn't theater sound, but it makes a major difference in the sound. Since it is in a small room it is more than adequate. I attached a set of Coby 50W 2.1 speakers with a sub-woofer. I picked them up a a local Big Lots for $20.

This TV is stunning!!! For under $300, you will not find any better! The sound is weak, but there is a cheap and easy fix. Buy some computer speakers and plug them into the headphone jack on the side of the unit. I use a 3 piece Logitech set w/ a sub that sounds great! They cost about $50. I use this TV to play xbox on when the main TV is in use. We have a 40' Sony w/ 120mhz refresh rate (paid $1800 for!!!) and the Vizio looks just as good! I promise you will not be disappointed with this TV!!!!
