The setting of the world is talked about, but not described in a way that made me take interest in it's welfare. The book is well written and I didn't note any horrible grammar or editing flaws, but because of the plot progression being so drawn out, I lost interest and was unable to continue reading.
I hate to have to add anything negative but the punctuation is sloppy especially in the first 15 percent of the book. There was a surprising lack of commas resulting in run on sentences that had to be read several times to get the meaning. Then there were commas that were absolutely unnecessary and made reading awkward. This author needs to understand the difference between elude and allude. Each time 'elude' was used, it should have been 'allude'. Elude means to evade or escape and allude means to hint or indirectly refer to something. Also the difference between effect and affect. Effect is a noun and affect is a verb. Maybe this sentence will help make the difference clearer. 'The special effect failed affecting the performance.' There are some sentence fragments too.
I want to say that these errors did not affect my enjoyment of the story but did interrupt reading flow. This is clearly a talented and creative writer and I hate to see these errors that could be corrected so easily.
Luckily, yhe the author has written many books, so you can do what I'm doing: get another Hileman book & start reading!
