Some notes for specific cases:
- I wouldn't want to use this for serious gaming. The refresh rate is pretty low at 60 hz .
- Because the display is widescreen, it ends up being quite narrow and long in a vertical orientation.
- Color is just okay. I got it to an acceptable place by tinkering with the settings, but it did not look great out of the box.
The stand is extremely simple to install. I especially like the "no tools" screw, which has a small flip-up flat piece that allows you to tighten the screw entirely by hand.
The monitor adjusts to between about -5 degrees forward tilt (if you wanted to put it up on a shelf above eye level) to about 10 degrees backwards tilt (for a tall person with a monitor on a low desk.
No significant color/brightness issues. It is easily viewable with only slight color fading at up to about 30 degrees off-angle.
Picture quality is excellent - no appreciable lags or artifacts in videos and resolution with a 10 Megapixal camera image was sharp and clear.
As soon as I connected the VGA cable and turned on the monitor, it appeared, automatically sync'ed and adjusted to my laptop display resolution.
All I had to do was tell Windows how I wanted the monitors arranged (extend desktop and put second monitor to left of primary laptop).
Setup took less than 10 minutes, including unpacking, installing base, plugging in and configuring Windows.
The default setup is quite bright, but I found that their "sRGB" mode produced a very nice level of brightness. There are several "standard" modes of display - "theater", "game", "scenery", and "night mode" in addition to the "sRGB". Each has a slightly different brightness and contrast mix. You should be able to find one that you like from the standard list, or you can fine-tune the display through individual controls.
Update - well - one flaw. The power cord is only 5 feet long, which doesn't quite reach my power bar, so now I need to buy a 6 foot cord. So close, but not quite there...
Update - from a question that was posted. While the monitor comes with two connector cables, you should only connect ONE type of cable between a computer and a monitor (any computer and any monitor - not just this one). Either use an HDMI cable (not included) OR the DVI cable OR the VGA cable. Do not connect both the DVI and VGA cables between the same computer and the monitor.
If your computer has only a VGA connector (common on older and laptop computers), then if you want to get audio you will need to separately purchase a "VGA with audio to HDMI" adapter cable. This cable will have a VGA connector and a loose "pigtail" wire with a 3.5mm audio jack on one end, and an HDMI connector on the other end. Plug the VGA connector into your computer, plug the 3.5mm audio jack into your computer's headphones output receptacle, and plug the HDMI connector into the back of the monitor and you should be able to get audio output to the monitor.
Exterior
First off - I love the look and it doesn't take up a lot of space. The stand is very sturdy and allows you to tilt the monitor up and down about 5-10 degrees (that doesn't sound like a lot - but it makes a huge difference). I have a Hannspree LCD monitor of similar size in a secondary room, and found that the color accuracy on these ASUS monitors are SO MUCH BETTER. Currently I have 2 monitors set up on a tri-mount (anticipating a 3rd slightly larger purchase for the middle screen), and they act as wings along side my laptop. It's great for multitasking and organizing different programs while you work.
Nuts and bolts...
The monitors are both very easy to mount and are fairly lightweight. They look slick without the stand below hanging on a proper desk mount, whether that be wall mounted or on a multi-stand. All you need to remove the stand is a Phillips head screwdriver, and I was able to get both monitors mounted in about 10 minutes.
Screen resolution and setup
For those that don't know or are new to this.. VGA / HDMI / DVI - they'll all output up to the max resolution for this screen (1920x1080). Also - important to know is that there are different versions of DVI plugs. VGA and HDMI are pretty universal - but DVI there are many varieties. Currently I have one plugged into my VGA in my laptop and one plugged into the HDMI in your laptop. If you opt to go with more monitors, you will need a VGA / DVI to USB converters. Make sure that the PC you are connecting to will allow for multiple monitors (if you right click on your desktop and choose "screen resolution" you should have a button that says "detect" - this should then show you how many compatible devices your computers video card can handle. It will show a blank screen that says "another display not connected." Make sure you are knowledgeable about how many monitors your video card can handle before you choose to go with a multi-monitor setup.
I decided to wait for black friday / cyber monday sales to purchase my 3rd monitor.. Will probably purchase something with no bezel on the sides so that I can rest that in front of the bezels on the two ASUS monitors.
Both purchases were used with Amazon Prime and I opted to purchase the 3-monitor stand with elbows made by PWR+

I would highly recommend this product - quick 2 day shipping on both the stand and monitors was fantastic (if you have a prime account).
TV used in setup is also great. Great for gaming with 3 monitors, can use TV as game map... link here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C5B18CQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Obviously, this isn't a gaming monitor, but for every use, it's a nice HDMI monitor.
*the only disappointment is that in the box I got a VGA cable and a DVI cable. However, there was no HDMI cable! That's so wrong. To advertise it as an HDMI monitor but not include the cable. Makes more sense to save money by not including the other two cables and throw in the HDMI cable instead. Just an honest opinion.
Overall the screen is beautiful
Price is good 175$
Poor rating because it's very complicated to set
