Once a photo is taken, it is easy to view on the screen. There are fun treatments for selfies and pictures of friends the kids will love, and it is simple to scroll through and delete. Mommy and Daddy can add a memory card, or just use the camera memory and the provided cable for putting on Mommy's computer.
There's a place for her to make digital voice recordings and also videos.
I've read some concerns about the games, but I actually like the games very much. They are basic simple games that will actually improve some of her motor skills (imo) Intetesting enough that she will want to play them sometimes but not overly absorbing. Perfect for those times on vacation when photos aren't being taken but a child needs to be occupued (on a bus or train for example... Why bring an extra toy?) In settings you can make them inaccessible if you prefer. The games give you the option of toggling for control or tipping the whole unit right left up or down.
Did I mention that the pink design I chose is adorable and my granddaughter will love it??
There's a little wrist strap included that can go on either side (or you can purchase camera straps that go around the neck and hook on both sides for just a few dollars, which is what I will do)
Overall I say WELL DONE! If you are on the wall about this purchase, jump in. I love the thing. I was anxious about setting it up for her but there is NOTHING to it. Even the least techno savvy grabdma will be able to do it. Definitely anyone who has used a digital camera.
The photos aren't too bad for being low on the MP scale, but in low light they do tend to be a little more blurry, which goes for most cameras, so that's not really a negative.
Battery life is decent, if you are concerned about going through a billion batteries, it's easy to get rechargeable AAs and just recharge them at night.
The camera controls are intuitive, within a day she'd figured out how to get to all of the filters, change the cameras between front and back, and even found the games.
Personally I find the games to be unnecessary, it doesn't make sense to have them on a camera. I didn't reduce the rating, however, because the games can be turned off. If you do turn them off, I highly recommend doing it before your child finds them, otherwise they will ask about them after you've turned them off.
The one thing that I DO take off one star for is the shutter lag. There is a full second or more between the time she presses the shutter and the camera takes the photo. Which means that she's trying to see the photo she just took before the shutter activates. We're working with her to wait until she hears the shutter noise, but I don't think that it is abnormal to expect toddlers to push a button and expect instant results.
I'd still recommend the camera, especially for older children who can wait a couple seconds until they hear the shutter sound to check their photos.
However, my stars are reduced because the camera does not seem durable. My daughter was not rough at all, but after 4 months the camera developed a defect such that it shuts off randomly during use, sometimes within seconds - making the camera now unusable. Different batteries have not helped.
Beware that the VTech Kidizoom DUO seems to have a 90-day warranty. Therefore, our defective camera could not be replaced anymore. This warranty is not clearly marked by Amazon or by VTech. This product is actually produced by VTech UK, but they will not uphold the 12-months UK warranty when sold on Amazon. They claim the Amazon "Online Exclusive" product carries the 90-day warranty of their US products - although this product is not sold by VTech America, and their US customer service won't respond to inquiry about this product.
Finally, in my experience, VTech customer service were not very responsive, ready to dismiss or ignore a courteous inquiry. With several different worldwide divisions that make their products, the customer service for one department seems quick to defer any responsibility to the next.
Verdict: this camera should be considered a 90-day "throw-away" product. You won't get help when it does break. May or may not be worth the money for it's short lifespan.
