The online set-up and parental tracking are very easy to use and the games available for download are fun and educational. The girls love having their own little handheld entertainment and if not for the trouble with the quality of the hardware, we would definitely have recommended these. After returning two out of two though, I'd say vTech should be paying more attention to the quality control.
VTech "customer service" told me to pay to send it back and once they receive it, they will send me a new one within 15 DAYS!!! Really? Did you ever try keeping a toy from a toddler??? After 15 days of screaming for it, I'm supposed to give it back to her just as she's forgetting about it? I can't wait a month and pay for shipping on a model toy that is clearly defective and WILL break again within a few weeks. Making their customers pay for return shipping and wait until the broken toy is in their hands to process a replacement ... wow, they've already labeled us thieves! What am I going to do with your defective toy, guys, put it on my mantel?
Amazon is sending me a new one, with free priority shipping, even though it's way past the return date. THAT is customer service worth noting. I am glad I'm not paying for a replacement, and when this one breaks (it WILL) I am never buying another VTech toy again.
By the way, did you guys at V-Tech notice toddlers throw things? You could maybe put SCREWS on your battery compartments, so all the batteries don't fly out when it falls 2 feet to the ground. I have no idea who designs these things but they shouldn't have a job.
Also note that it runs on 4 AA batteries or a AC/DC plug. Neither comes with the game. Batteries last about a day and a half to almost 2 days for the amount of time my 3 year old plays on it. An AC/DC plug is not a good idea at all, who wants a 3 year old sitting at a wall socket playing a game!! You will need to get rechargeable batteries if your child will play hours a day on it. What comes with it is a cord to attach it to your computer and a disk to install the VTech Learning Lodge to your computer. The Learning Lodge is where you access everything to manage the game and learning progress.
Overall it's a nice concept but NOT well designed for downloading or long-term playing. I gave it 2 stars because of the deception in leading you to believe you can download ANYTHING on it when you can't. Oh and the download purchases can't be cancelled. They download to your computer but you can't transfer them to the Mobigo2 because there is no space on it to receive the transfer. (if she was going to play on my laptop I didn't need Mobigo2) If I had not let her play with it for a week before attempting to download books and games for her I would return it. No I don't recommend it unless my issues with it is not a factor for you.
