Top Customer Reviews
As is typical of Vtech, this is more than just a train set! It's chalk full of learning opportunities at every turn; literally! I had to help him put it together but because the tracks come in different colors it was easy for him to assist me! I would tell him to find the red track, or the blue curved track. It was a lesson in colors and shapes and sizes just putting it together! There are different configurations you can make with the same track so I let him choose the one he wanted. I also appreciated the color coding because it made it super easy to put together just by copying the picture.
Once it was put together it was time to explore! The train comes with batteries for store testing purposes only but they have actually lasted several weeks of continuous use so that was a nice little bonus. The freight train can go by itself, even up that steep hill without a problem! We have motorized trains before that just would not stay on the track but this one does and turns easily and naturally with the curves in the track, all the while talking and singing away.
If you press the light up button it will sing three different songs. When it hits the 9 different SmartPoint sensors on the tracks it says different phrases that correspond with that specific area.
The top of the mountain that is supposed to be a mine has holes for three different shapes that are also different colors. They can push them in and then they travel down the mountain. Once at the bottom they are stopped by a gate, until the train comes along and hits the sensor and then it dumps the shape (or gold) into the trains cargo car. This was just my favorite part for some reason!
My toddlers favorite was the crane that he turned into a wrecking ball that's separate from the track and hammering the shapes into a building. Of course he likes the typical boy destructive things!
All three of my kids are obsessed with Minecraft so they were relating a lot of this to the game. While this is rated up to five, my seven year old daughter was instantly obsessed with it and playing with her brother. She started putting her dolls on the train and watching them chug around the track.
My kids have been playing with this daily for weeks! I was waiting for them to get tired of it to change the track configuration and mix it up but it hasn't happened yet! The Go Go Smart Wheels Treasure Mountain Train Adventure is filled with fun learning opportunities and hours of entertainment for young children!
Disclosure:The train has been provided by VTech so I could experience it with my family; however, the thoughts and opinions are all my own.
Taking everything out of the packaging was easy enough, but getting everything assembled was the tricky part, primarily due to his involvement with putting things together. There were two different sheets of stickers that came with the set and you’ll find them much easier to apply before everything is assembled. You will want to make sure that you have the 3 AAA batteries readily available, as they were used up in about an hour of using the freight train with the motor on.
Some parts of the track come apart entirely too easily, whereas they do take a little bit of work to connect, and other parts are extremely difficult to connect and take apart, which are the parts with the ramp. If you have any form of uneven surface, foam floor tiles in our case, then any part of the track that changes in surface height will more than likely cause the track to disconnect when the train rolls over it on its own, let alone with a child pushing it along.
The cargo car that is pulled by the freight train is too wide to go through the Spinning Spiral Tower Playset’s car wash, without being helped through. (This was a gift from someone else, but based on what we had read all sets were compatible with each other) Based on the cross selling that’s included with their products, I would only assume that they expect people to only get like items and not different types, i.e. parking garage and police station and not a train set and parking garage.
On the front of a mountain is a gate that you insert into a device that the train can push that causes another gate that is just inside the mountain to go up and down. The primary lever on the inside of the mountain is held down by two screws opposite from each other that have slightly wide bases that act like washers to keep the lever in place. If either of the gates is played with in just the right way the primary lever on the inside of the mountain will come right out. We ended up running the smallest wire tie that we have between the two screws to hold things in place, even though we only had this open for a few hours.
Once you get beyond all of the nuances of the set, this can give your child(ren) hours of entertainment.
The colorful tracks are easy to attach and they stay in place. It comes with a motorized freight train, which moves along at a good speed going through the tunnels and up hills. There are also nine SmartPoint locations on the track, which trigger the train to light up and play fun phrases and music. It also works with other Go! Go! smart vehicles and the tracks can also connect with tracks from other sets. There's also a gold mine with a crane, which grabs shaped blocks to pretend you're mining for gold. The overall quality is really great especially for the inexpensive price. This was definitely a great buy.
