You know what's crazy? I HATE novellas, can't stand them. They are too short and most of the time feel like they were rushed or too much going on at once, trying to compact it all into this tiny book...

Well this is NOT your typical novella. This is...words fail me..it's like...how can I explain this... Getting everything you've ever hoped for sat right onto your lap. You finish it and you are in awe of Ker's ability to make you question your sense of right and wrong.(and I think I've said just that in my reviews of her books before)Or how she makes horrible things seem like its the most normal thing in the world, and MAKE you ok with that. She takes control of you while you are reading her books, but its ok because you don't want to be let go. You want to stay inside of her twisted mind because its awesome! She is your Dark Queen, she is your outlet to your dark and twisted cravings. ALL in this tiny book, that holds more punch than most full length novels. Yeah, you think I'm kidding...read it.

Obviously you need to read Empathy and Desolate first for it to make any sense, but that's ok because they were amazing reads too. I don't want to give one single thing away. I want you to feel like I did after you read it. AMAZED! *zips lips* READ IT! You will not regret it!

And once again Ker Dukey doesn't disappoint! Just when you think you have things figured out she throws a huge twist in the story line that has you sitting with your jaw dropped, a huge gasp followed by a WTF? Just when you think you have read it all and it's coming to an end, Ker Dukey opens a whole other chapter. One that I never even really considered until I was over half way through this novella. Even though I kind of suspected the avenue she was going to take she still found a way to leave me completely flabbergasted yet again, and really anxious to see what there is to come! This is yet again, another story that is so well written and she always finds more to add to the same characters that have been with us throughout most of this journey! She has one of the most brilliant minds out there. She just continues to build and build on these characters and they continue to grow and grow right before our eyes! I can't wait to sink my teeth into the next novella, Deadly. Thank you so much for the hours of joy and entertainment that you provide for so many of us! You forever have a fan-girl in me!

Another blown away piece to this story. In this part we get into Cereus' head and find out just exactly how much she is like her Uncle Ryan. Away at college , feeling lost yet loving being on her own. Making friends- hold that thought- and exploring her art. I honestly cannot even put this part into words. Cereus is not at all what we expected and being in her head proves to be very confusing and at times I felt scared to go on. Voices in her head , certain friends in her head , nightmares and not being sure if she was doing things or just dreaming them. WOW this poor girl. Just when she needs the guidance her savior comes back to help her through. He even realizes quickly that Cereus is far into the darkness. Maybe even a deeper darkness than him, definitely deeper than the one her father had come and gone from. A crazy chain of events that even Ryan cannot control sends Blake to clean up after his daughter and make some choices that will alter their lives forever. More of that to come in Deadly !!

Empathy, Desolate, Vacant…..this review covers the series and will be the same under each title. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I like dark, and I like erotic, but this series goes beyond combining those two. This series is something different altogether. These characters get under your skin, in your head and steal your breath. You go the edge and back again in a way that is somewhat mesmerizing. I found myself power reading, only to go back and read again. I can’t even say who I liked most or least. Mel, Ryan, Blake, Cereus…they are nothing without each other. None of these characters could be in any other work. If any of them were to actually die? I don’t think I could keep reading. They need each other for all this to make sense. I went through so many emotions with this read – always a good sign! It starts and ends with heartbreak, but that really doesn’t give away what happens in between. I also don’t think there needs to be another book. The ending was tragic and beautiful. It left you with just enough answers and a little bit of hope. It wasn’t pretty, but it was all amazing. Highly recommended.

I love the first half of this novella. I'm a bit disappointed in the last half. I would have loved to see, in detail, Ryan and Cereus together; the killings, their life, etc. The first half was stellar though.

5 Crazy Ass Must Read Stars!!!!!

Wow! Wow! Wow! Yeah, I'm left a bit speechless after that. Holy crap! I would like to explore Ker Dukey's mind for a day. How does she come up with this s***? I LOVE this series. I don't want to ruin with spoilers but I will leave you with a little experience I had while reading.

So I was reading this while at the Dr.'s office waiting for my appointment and at one point I gasped out loud and said, "OMG!" really loud. There were a couple of others around me that started to ask what I was reading that got me to verbally respond like to the story. I preceded to tell them about how I run a book blog and it's pretty awesome because I get discover all these amazing authors and I turn started to talk up Ker Dukey's Empathy Series. Right away two of the ladies sitting next me downloaded the books and started reading right away. Thankfully I had some cards with and passed them out. One of the ladies messaged yesterday to tell me she read the whole series and has fallen in love with, and I quote, "beautifully, twisted and demented author." I just love when I can spread the my love for an author!
