As a potential hint, I no longer store the coffee loosely in the containers like shown in the product description. I typically buy the 12-ounce bags of coffee (such as Starbucks), and those fit inside of this size container just fine. The advantage to keeping it in the bag, IMO, is that it keeps the container cleaner and there isn't the risk of loose coffee coating the rubber seal on the lid.
I used to only grind enough beans for the pot I was brewing. This made drinking coffee a production! But, since I've been using the Vacu Vin coffee saver (for about 2 years now), I can grind about a weeks' worth of beans at one time, and the last pot is as good as the first.
Also, the initial expense is more than made up for in the constant freshness of my fresh-ground coffee.

For those who are interested in monitoring your vacuum holding, you can put some sealed small bag (some teabag) in the jar. When you pump out the air, the teabag will be puffed up. By the expansion, you can tell if the vacuum is held. I do use olive oil on the seal and it helps a lot! Still, it cannot help a crack leak!
4/20/2015 Edit: No response from Vacu Vin after a week after sending in feedback at their Contact page. Kind of disappointing....
4/29/2015 Edit: Totally no response from Vacu Vin for the feedback. Drop to one star and will be very hesitate to buy from them.
5/26/2015 Edit: Finally, I use 5-min epoxy to seal the hair line crack. I sucked vacuum before epoxy dried so it was draw through the crack for better bonding. Then, I tested it after 5-day curing. It was holding vacuum well (with my testing teabag). After about 5-min, I heard a sharp cracking sound. Exactly at the hair line location, the epoxy bond cracked again. Now it is clear to me that the design was flawed and a stress concentration would consistently occur at the exact same spot.Read more ›

Very disappointed with this. Cannot get it to work consistently no matter how I use it. It is worthless. I only gave it 1 star because I couldn't go lower. Read morePublished 1 month ago by cjk
Works well. Hard to fit the lid on just right. So if you can not take time, or seeing impaired, don't buy this one.Published 2 months ago by B. W.
