Originally engineered more than 25 years ago, the Pineapple Slicer continues to be one of the most successful products in Vacu Vin's entire assortment. The ingenious device was the first of its kind within the international market and has revolutionised the pineapple preparation process.
The Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer incorporates 3 separate blades that will peel, core and slice fresh pineapples in just 30 seconds - all via a procedure that is much safer than using a knife. Once the top of the shell has been removed, the device is inserted directly into the pineapple and operates via a corkscrew-based mechanism that enables the creation of perfectly-shaped rings and slices. It was recently revamped to include a unique detachable wedger that allows the user to produce ready-to-eat chunks of pineapple. The gadget also features a quick release button within the handle so that the slices/rings can be easily removed for consumption. The Pineapple Slicer was designed so that the shell of the fruit remains intact after the flesh has been extracted. It can then subsequently be used as a bowl for desserts and cocktails.
The Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer is also available: 1) in a non-stainless steel version (either in a box or on a card); 2) as part of a set of 3 (for small, medium and large pineapples); and 3) as part of the Vacu Vin Fruit Preparation Set (launched in 2013).

So, then we went to purchase the pre-cut pieces from our grocer and I'd find more and more pieces with the inedible core in the batch so we stopped buying it and gave up... until Del Monte published a coupon on coupons dot com with a deal for pineapples, buy two save $1.25, and our grocer had a sale on pineapples 2 for $2.50, we brought home 2 pineapples for $1.25!! I couldn't pass that up, was a fantastic deal!! but then I had to cut them up and I put that off until I figured out a better way to cut them up..
I went to amazon.com later that night and I looked at what my options were and found this little guy! I ordered it and with my 2 day shipping I got it in time to cut them both up..
It literally took a minute and a half to cut one of up, I was so excited! We can have fresh pineapple again!!!
It is actually very very neat how this works, it does the corkscrew type drive into the fruit slicing a perfect circular chunk out of the center of the pineapple, sliced into about 1/4 inch deep circles.
*You might want to do this in a clean sink, there is a lot of juice that will come out of your fruit*
1) First you'll slice the cap off the pineapple
2) Connect your handle to the top of the Slicer
3) Locate the Core and center the core cut out over the top of the core
4) Put Slight to moderate pressure and twist clockwise, fast or slow, doesn't matter, it will cut the same.Read more ›
(a) I stink at cutting pineapples
(b) I make a huge mess while cutting pineapples (my dog doesn't mind, however)
(c) I end up eating whatever I salvage out of my pineapple cuttings solely out of guilt (because, as I usually let them sit too long, typically they taste terrible)
...at $3-4 a pineapple here in Wisconsin, I've easily wasted more in one year on uneaten and overripe pineapples than the price of this gadget.
So I got my slicer/wedger, and in a week I've bought, and then cut and eaten two pineapples with it. RIGHT AFTER BUYING THEM!!! Here's a quick how-to, without making a huge mess:
(1) slice off the top and bottom of the pineapple (so you can see the yellow insides)
(2) place the pineapple in a flat-bottomed bowl or any flat dish, pan, etc.Read more ›
****UPDATE 6-19-2012***** I emailed the company from their website and explained what happened. They are sending me a replacement. At least the company stands behind their products.
The other glitch emerged at around the same time. It seems that the slicing portion is so effective (and it REALLY is) that it doesn't always follow the core of the pineapple, leaving the inner diameter of some pineapple discs with a bit of the hard core, instead of the yummy ripe flesh. Another non-fatal flaw, but a flaw nonetheless
So I rated the whole setup a 4, mostly because I'm still awash in the memories of the yummy pineapple, and have suppressed the mildly annoying parts. You'll probably wind up doing the same - pineapple fresh from the plant is SO compelling that you just can't stay angry at a device that makes it as painless as this one does, even though it does a couple of stupid things in the process.
