About the Author
I’ve always loved reading romance and am thrilled to now be a Presents author. I live and work on a farm in Wales, a far cry from the glamour of a Presents story, but that makes slipping into my characters’ world all the more appealing. When I’m not writing or working on the farm I enjoy photography and visiting historic castles and grand houses. Visit me at www.rachaelthomas.co.uk

Lydia Carter-Wilson has always felt unwanted and unloved by her parents. Sent to boarding school from a very young age, Lydia has more affection for her beloved grandmother who had helped raise her than for her irresponsible father and her uncaring and cold mother. She has never been under any illusion that her parents loved her, but even she is shocked when she discovers that her father has been running up a staggering number of debts all in her name. Debts which she has no hope of ever paying. Lydia’s nightmare, however, is only just beginning for magnate Raul Valdez comes up with an outrageous proposition that shocks her to her very core: if she can help him claim his inheritance, he will pay off her debts. However, there is a catch: if Lydia fails she will have to marry Raul on Christmas Eve!
Lydia is absolutely flabbergasted by this proposition, but with no other option available to her, she knows that she has got no other choice but to acquiesce. Having first-hand experience of a toxic marriage, Lydia had vowed never to make the same mistake her parents had made and marry. She had vowed to stay single and to keep her heart firmly under lock and key. However, Lydia hadn’t counted on drop dead gorgeous Raul Valdez awakening feelings deep within her which she had thought long buried. Giving into temptation proves inevitable, however, losing her heart to Raul is strictly off the agenda for although he has made it perfectly clear that he would love to have Lydia in his bed, their relationship will always be strictly business – even if he cannot stop thinking about the only woman who has managed to get under his skin…
As intense sexual chemistry gives way to something deeper, Raul and Lydia soon find themselves falling head over heels in love with one another, but can they ever hope to have a future together when there are so many obstacles standing in their way? Or is their love simply not meant to be?
A wonderfully romantic read I devoured in a single sitting, Valdez’s Bartered Bride is an intense, sensual and highly poignant tale of illicit passion, forbidden attraction and redemption that readers will find impossible to resist. Rachael Thomas is a terrific storyteller who layers her narrative with feeling, subtlety and sensitivity and keeps her readers turning the pages by creating strong, resourceful and believable heroines like Lydia and sexy, brooding and charismatic heroes like Raul.
A spellbinding romance from a writer whose books never fail to sparkle and delight, Valdez’s Bartered Bride is a fabulous Harlequin Presents novel heading straight for my keeper shelf!
Blackmailed ... into marriage?? He thinks she's a spoiled princess, she thinks he's a playboy tycoon .. both have sides of themselves they keep private and hidden away from the worlds they grew up in. When scandal and deception leaves them counting on the other to get them out of the mess they find themselves in, their personalities flare up and come out to play! Both are reserved, but when the passion they feel for each other takes over, we see kinder souls hiding inside. The plot was fast moving and held my attention!
Lydia Carter-Wilson knew her estranged father was ruthless, she just never expected him to use her and her name to trade in on a debt! When she learns from Raul that she's destined to marry him on Christmas Eve in order to keep her father's dalliances out of the press, she's furious! She just might have to make a deal with the devil himself to get herself out of this one!
Raul Valdez has father troubles of his own, and the recent death of his has left a monster of a stipulation before his inheritance can go through. Lydia has no other option than to marry him ... he'll see to it ... or the company he worked so hard to resurrect will go under! Electrifying attraction may be a distraction, but will it be enough to make their time together more pleasant?
This is Book 1 of author Rachael Thomas's mini series, 'Convenient Christmas Brides'.
Book 2 is Martinez's Pregnant Wife, release date January 2018.
Lydia Carter-Wilson is aghast at her father’s debt and the way he’d tied up her future in it. She’d do almost anything to settle it all. But would she be willing to marry Raul Valdez for it?
Because once she met Raul, she can’t get him out of her mind. Passion flares between them and chemistry ignites with scorching results. They give in to their desires, but could this turn into love?
VALDEZ’S BARTERED BRIDE is a highly sensual romance filled with emotions and drama. Author Rachael Thomas brought this tale of family jealousy, betrayal and redemption to life on the pages. This story would enthrall a reader and keep her hooked until the very last. I finished this story in one sitting, as I was eager to discover what happened next.
Highly recommended for all readers of romance.
This is one for the 2 books in the series of Convenient Christmas Brides. The book 2 will release in January 2018 and called Martinez’s Pregnant Wife.
Lydia Carter-Wilson is so upset with the amount of debts that her father has run up in her name. Now she must do something she really does not want to do. If she helps Raul Valdez claim his inheritance he will pay off her debts. Her part to claim it is if she marries Raul. Could it possibly work and get done on Christmas Eve.
They do have a connection and attraction but it is still blackmail. But it would clear her name. Her estranged father used her name and her to trade in on a debt.
It would not be so bad but she can not get Raul out of her mind.
Books by Rachael Thomas always makes me smile and this one was no exception. I can not wait to read the 2nd one.
