They're pretty tough to prepare for use, too. You have 10 individual 2-lb sacks to put into the pockets of the strap pieces. The best way to put them in is to have it stretched across a flat surface and push down on the sack, flattening the sack from outside the strap every centimeter or two (it's almost a project). Before using them, make sure those sacks are re-flattened to minimize any precise, additional pressure that would throw the weight's balance off and hurt your leg.
They WILL make your balance funny for the first minute or two, so be aware of that at least. Get going and you'll feel accustomed in no time. Take them off after a good handful of hours, and you'll probably notice a nice difference in very little time.
If I don't have the cuff on over my pants or socks, it slips around on my ankle during exercise even though I have the strap cinched up tight. I find that annoying, especially on leg thrusts.
The weight bags are bulky and once removed are difficult to squeeze back into the slots. Two out of 10 of the bags are leaking small amounts of the sand-like material after a few months of use. The bulk and geometry of the bags results in an uneven pressure around the ankle bones that can cause discomfort, but you can rotate the weights to minimize this and eventually you will get used to it.
The slots for the weight can theoretically be filled with something denser. I was thinking maybe rolls of nickels or something. The product would be much better if a more uniform molded weight without sharp edges were used instead of this sand like material.
The velcro straps are good quality and do a good jump of securing the weights snugly around the ankles. Despite the amount of sweat on them, the nylon shell is still odor free. The sweat has started to rust the D-rings though after just 3 months or so.
I would recommend them for anyone who wants to improve their leg speed and strength for MMA or other activities where you kick a lot. I would also recommend them for people who want to become a barefoot runner, by using them on stair mills and inclined treadmills to strengthen the muscles needed to be a good forefoot striker.
They undoubtedly work, but would be much better with some small design improvements.
