"Valhalla is a myth that is old as time. It has been told and retold for centuries. Mandy M. Roth has given us another rendition of this mystical tale. It’s very passionate with a sad side that will make your heart cry. Linnea goes through hell; the question is will she make it back? Karr, Gregorios, or Lucha, which is destined to be by Linnea’s side? I love Ms. Roth’s use for a waterfall in the story. Never again will I look at a waterfall the same. From now on every time I see one I’ll wonder, could it be possible. When an author can leave a reader with that kind of feeling she can say she’s done her job. Ms. Roth’s interpretation of a Valkyrie’s life is a hot, sizzling love story that will have you coming back for more. Be sure to get Valhalla The Valkyrie Beginnings by Mandy M. Roth. And be careful you don’t go over the waterfalls. You never know where you may land. Enjoy!" --Reviewed by: Diane Fallen Angel Reviews

"VALHALLA: The Valkyrie Beginnings is a dark paranormal story with a little romance and a lot of suspense. It chronicles Linnea's journey from Valkyrie to vampire, and the men she loves along the way. Gregory, Lucha, and Kerr all have great strengths and gifts beyond anything imaginable, but they also have one weakness -- their love for Linnea. The story flows smoothly, following Linnea's many sexual encounters, her battles, and her struggles to remember who and what she once was. Linnea is the best at her job of capturing souls, and those in Valhalla know it. Once she's turned and her memories are gone, Linnea teaches the newly turned vampires how to live and survive, and she feeds off the blood of evil doers. She might not have her memories, but instilled deep inside her is the need to protect the innocent.

Ms. Roth writes a thriller that readers of dark romance will find enjoyable. But if you're looking for a romance and a happily-ever-after, then VALHALLA: The Valkyrie Beginnings may not be to your liking."--Romance Reviews Today

"Ms. Roth has written an interesting beginning to a series. Linnea’s character is a woman bucking against the old guard of the elders. She doesn’t like the fact that she is dragging men away from their time and their battles back to Valhalla. Her character is strong and sensitive. At times I wanted to cry with her as she encountered problems in her travels. The many men she develops an interest in during her time in the human world are fascinating. Kerr and Beau are the most interesting, since their characters are in the book longer. Kerr is a man of great passion and you feel the joy he has when he finds himself in Valerie’s arms. Beau is tempted and wants the forbidden fruit that Linnea offers. The sex scenes in this story are powerful. I found that there was so much happening in this first installment that it was overwhelming. It will be interesting to see how Ms. Roth handles the next installment in this series." --Just Erotic Romance Reviews

Linnea is a Valkyrie and is unhappy.
She is unhappy for quite a few reasons, even here in this wonderland created by Odin, Valhalla.
She does not like that she has the exact same name as her mother. Her mother lies around in a bikini looking the same age as she, but was once the greatest of the Valkyries.
She does not like that she is a royal princess, but whose mother never took on the mantle of queen. The senior council plans to make her queen.
Who was her father, if he was good enough that her mother should have been queen?
BUT, Beau, a modern warrior who died in the recent Middle Eastern Wars, not good enough?
Why are her powers increasing while the older Valkyries are decreasing as they get older?
What secrets are they keeping from her about the coming Apocalypse?
Why are her quota of supernatural men increased?

This day she is being sent to Scotland to find a man with exceptionally strong supernatural abilities,
including the ability to read minds. She accidentally gets the year and mode of dress wrong, but finds Bhreac Kerr Laochailan, just the man she was looking to find. She has another of her many visions and sees Kerr's brother killed and Kerr badly injured by the devil vampires. In another of her visions she sees a small little boy with her eyes and Kerr's red hair in the middle of the stream. He calls her Mother in Gaelic, then slips under the water in a sea of blood. She dives in and tries over and over to save him. Kerr lets her know that the child was not really there, but he knows it is a portend of their child's death. She is still a virgin when she meets Kerr. They hand-fast and declare their love, promising to marry.

This book clearly should have been read before The Valkyrie. That order would have made the first book easier to read and comprehend. This story was emotional and entertaining. I couldn't put it down. This book had action and so much drama. With every romance and heartbreak you felt a complete array of emotions. I felt so bad for Linnea/Valerie by the end of the book. I now have to reread The Valkyrie so it can all make sense.

Devoured this and Valkyrie in one day; full of action, violence, and crazy mixed up love. Even though this is the second in this series it really expands on where the characters came from and explains a lot of the first book Valkyrie. I really enjoyed this series and hope it's continuation is on the back burner! It's easy to become invested in these characters as you follow them though pleasure and pain, it is a little different style then most of the other Mandy Roth books I've read but I think it is an excellent book. The only thing that I have an issue with is it still feels to open, there's no closure to the story as of now, hence my hope for further additions since my imagination is nowhere near as good as Ms. Roth's.

I am at a loss for words here! This story is so filled with love but yet at the same time it is so heart wrenchingly beautiful! There is so much heart break but happiness too! I actually went back to book 1 Valkyrie to refresh my memory of what happened in that one. Once I started to remember - it has been a while since I read it - then I was so eager to read this one! I had to know what brought Linnea/Valkyrie/Valerie to the point where we first met her and WOW! I cannot believe everything that she has gone through! This is such an amazing story and I think it is pure genius of Mandy to have Val’s PAST be the second book! I found myself so curious as to how she met everyone and how they came to mean so much to her as well as just knowing everything that life or fate had/has dealt her. It is hard to comprehend everything that Valerie has gone through! Whether she remembers it or not, I sure do! I would love to see where it goes from here...or there...whichever way you look at it! What happened on Valhalla since she last was there? How much time has passed there? Where does this now leave Valerie with regards to her husbands - ALL of them - now that she is starting to remember herself and her 'past lives' so to speak? Once again Mandy has blown me away with her phenomenal storytelling gift! This is a darker story that reminds me of her Daughter of Darkness series in a way, which is absolutely my all-time favorite series of Mandy's. The depth that this story has is what helps to make this series so mind-blowingly compelling! Of course, the fact that it lacks a fairy-tale "happily-ever-after" ending...of any kind..SO FAR also has me very intrigued!Read more ›

This book was amazing I loved the back story because I always wondered how the events of book one the Valkyrie happened. This book was a roller-coaster of emotions for me I was rooting for one person then another. I cannot wait for the next book to come out I know it will be utterly amazing. Ms Roth has done it once again and reigns supreme in her genre.

This is Valhalla: The Valkyrie Beginnings-book 2. I would call it the prequel in the series. This is how Valerie (Linnea) lived her life as as one of Odin-s handmaidens. She always does her job as has been asked to with 100 % full force of her being BUT she isn’t happy. Valeri (Linnea )
knows some things- the Valkyries are stretched too thin and there are all the men she has loved, more like 3 men who came into her life . This book is 3 mini stories wrapped into one story and it works.

This story shows how Valerie is fighting the evil by bringing over to her side strong warriors that will fight for mankind. During the story it shows Valerie falling in love with while fighting the dreaded evil with Kerr. She had to leave him and return to Valhalla. Heartbroken while back in Valhalla, she continues fighting the evil and after some time, she ending up bringing on board another warrior into the fight for good named Gregory. As with Kerr, Valerie fell in love with Gregory too. There wasn’t much story on Gregory. Valerie moved on and went on to recruit Lucha but considering how important Kerr is to Valerie and to this story as a whole, maybe Kerr isn’t out of the picture yet. Corbain was this character that I don’t know how to put my finger on. I think he somehow is going to play a bigger part in the story but somehow didn’t…I wonder if he will play a bigger part in story in the next book. That is something that is confusing about Corbain. I am hoping this will be cleared up in the next story.

Overall this is a good prequel. Just the mysteries that have me needing to be cleared up. I need to know who Valerie chose- which man.
