This a very dark read and not really for the faint-hearted!!

Lily was a virgin, an innocent. She thinks she’s going to the Chateau to be a maid. It became apparent quite quickly to her that that was not the true reason for her being there. No…she’s pretty much held hostage there by the Master of the house and everything known to her and is precious to her is taken from her. This includes her freedom, her innocence and her virginity in a particularly scornful way.

Edward Darby is the ultimate sadist. He loves humiliating Lily. He loves taunting her. He loves beating her. He loves taking her dignity. He loves using her body as a vessel purely to satisfy his own sadistic sexual pleasures. He had no finesse. There was no loving feelings towards her. He beat her, he bonked her, he marked her with his seed, he shared her and watched her humiliation, and he walked away.

So hands up who’s still going Oh yey my kind of book!! Lol.

So basically this book is about Edward Darby teaching Lily how to submit to him. He doesn’t do this in a jolly way, he is totally menacing. He is cruel. And Lily? Well she learns pretty quickly that life is a lot easier for her if she abides by his rules. She does learn that where there’s pain, there can also be pleasure. Sadly the most painful thing to her is Edward’s total indifference towards her at times.

I liked reading this book and reading the dynamics of their relationship. I liked trying to second guess what was coming next. I liked trying to work out how the hell there’s gonna be a HEA at the end, or even if there would be.

I enjoyed the way Ms Doremus made her Master a sick and twisted evil man! I liked how we really didn’t know much about either character for much of the book. I liked the style of prose and the way each character had their own voice.

If you are looking for a dark read, this could be the one for you.

Lily heads to Chateau Oriol where her expectations are to be a maid, a servant to Mr. Darby. Well she definitely services others, all the while battling within herself the continued emptiness of being invisible to those around her. Lily feels less than, unwanted, and rejected. Darby teaches her to submit and accept pain with pleasure. Lily having no experience becomes needy, craving these pairings. Lily was defiled by strangers and this turned my stomach. Her weeping was not from pleasure, it was from disgust which I could relate with from reading these experiences. Lilly's time with the doctor taught her to use her voice, stand up for herself and fight back. Her time with him was my favorite of the book as Lily seemed in more control as well as at the end when she sought after what she knew she wanted. This book provoked strong emotional reactions from me which I can appreciate in a novel, but the situations igniting these emotions were not enjoyable (for my liking). The storyline moved at a steady pace but the character development could have been more thorough. We're aware Lily's upbringing was one that caused her pain, but we know nothing of Darby's past except for his late wife. I would've liked more description of who he is that's led to his current lifestyle. Give this a try and see what you think!! Rating: 2.5 stars

*I received a free copy to read & review for Wicked Reads Review Team*
This book was a quick read- It was fast paced, everything happened for a reason, and it was "cold". Many scenes occurred of the Dominant/submissive sort - but I never felt the intimacy that scenes of this nature usually evoke.
Lily, a young American virgin, takes a summer job as a maid for a wealthy man in Spain. After a very cold reception, she's immediately thrown into the job. While innocent and naive, she is very eager to please her new employer.
Edward Darby, the millionaire widow, is almost impossible to please. He offers no companionship, nor positive attention of any sort, and is a very hard taskmaster with very dark/sadistic tastes. I like dark stories, but he was just too cruel. I just couldn't appreciate him in any manner - he doesn't possess ONE positive quality. He takes and takes from naive Lily, and in return she just gives and gives - without complaint. Both characters seemed very 1 dimensional and I wished for a bit more assertiveness from her.
While I never "fell in love" with either character, I found it impossible to put this story down! The author did a fantastic job of toying with my emotions and slowly bringing the darkness to light. I'll admit that I enjoyed the writing and constantly found myself comparing this to "The Story of O" -as it truly evoked many similar feelings.

Wow I actually read this book earlier this month and had to sit on writing this review until I knew what I was going to say. I still am not real sure. This is definitely a DARK and I do like my dark reads so In the Valley of Lily didn’t shock me. I do think there needs to be a WARNING on this book so people that don’t like this type of book will know what to expect. Even though the synopsis does hint that this is a dark read. So, here is my WARNING there is nonconsensual and consensual sex. There is cruelty, submission & humiliation. All the things that go into Dark books.

Saying all that I was sucked into In the Valley of Lily and had to read it at one go in other words I couldn’t put this book down. There is a definite twisted HEA at the ending. And, since I love dark books I will read more from this author but, be wary and read this warning to see if this is the type of book you as the reader would enjoy reading.

I received this ARC for an honest review.
