T. W. Dittmer has created a mystical tale that fluctuates from war story to ancient legend. Just when you are caught up in his story of dragons and ancient magic, he weaves us back into the present reality of criminal investigation and political injustice. More than once I found myself analyzing the symbolic meaning behind the descriptions and the true meaning of the military mantra of "two salt tablets, a canteen of water and push on grunt."

The past and the future join together in the "The Valley Walker" in a mystical and very real way. T. W. Dittmer has written a book that takes us from reality deep into the paranormal. I found myself pulled into the story and wanting more. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys reading about war, criminal investigation and political overtones but who also enjoys the paranormal. T. W. Dittmer has provided it all in a well-written and exciting book. "The Valley Walker" is a sure winner.

"Valley Walker" is one of those rare, notable stories that will stay with the reader long after the book ends. It is well-written and well-edited with pace and action par non. The characters of Teri Altro, Bill Mallory, Doolee, beautiful Bao and Ka and all the others are totally believable and three dimensional, but it is John Walker Michaels' character that is beyond greatness.

Exceptional book combining the elements of far eastern mysticism accessible to general readers with contemporary crime hunting and the Heroin trade. The action - though far too sparse for this readers desire - is fluid and graceful - indeed as mystical as the fundamental premise of the book. The writer creates two wonderful main protagonists (supported by a smattering of charming characters) and his literary skills are heavily subdued and easily overlooked in the smooth flow of the narrative making the entire enterprise appear effortless. It is fitting for a story where honour is a central theme that no unnecessary gory details or excessive eroticism ripple through the pages but there is enough allusion to embed it in the real world.

Interesting premise of a Vietnam War vet who, through the intervention of an old Hmong woman, becomes transformed into a mystical being. With this power, John Walker Michaels has the strength to take on a violent drug cartel, one cushioned by layers of corruption where it’s not always easy to tell good guy from bad. Pivotal to this takedown is Teri Altro, a tough investigator who’s kept the world at bay for so long, she struggles with normal human interaction.

It was interesting to read about Hmong practices as well as the difficulties and dangers faced by Vietnam War soldiers, many of whom were barely out of boyhood. Dittmer captures this horror well and paints no false pictures of the atrocities faced by these young soldiers. This book should appeal to fans of war novels and political thrillers, with a dose of mysticism on the side.

This is a wonderfully written, spellbinding book. I'm a voracious reader (with over 14k eBooks on my Nexus 7) and this is absolutely the best thing I've read lately. I can't wait to read more of Mr. Dittmer's work.

Mr. Dittmer, many thanks for your Service to our country.

The book was enjoyable; fast paced, and had a tenacious plot. There were times I had to go back and reread a portion. I was never concerned because I knew Two Salt tablets, a canteen of water and push on would get me through.

I look forward to your next story.

“The Valley Walker” is one of those rare stories that will stay with you long after you finish reading. Most of the characters are totally believable, and the lead character, John Walker Michaels, was superb. This unusual story of a young soldier who turns into so much more will keep readers turning the pages. Well done!

T. W. Dittmer unlocks certain mysteries in The Valley Walker, which had me think he unlocked mysteries within himself in the process.

It's an oversimplification to think of this as just a tale of a war-worn man who's seen too much death in a mystical land, or a hard-nosed female cop who's shut down due to tragic events in her life.

Why do the two meet? What is the purpose? Though symbolic on dichotomous levels--not least of which include: a meeting of East and West, a relationship between a man and woman, mysticism vs. realism, peace time vs. war time--the story also imparts wisdom in a way which shows we are not all that different after all.

In The Valley Walker, there is much to be inferred from between the lines. Oftentimes, it reads as an allegory for a spiritual journey, one that could only have happened under the most unique of circumstances--that involving war, tragedy, and death.

Though I consider this to be a strongly cathartic story, Mr. Dittmer is also an extremely capable writer. He has woven a deeply personal tale, one I recommend without reservation.

Teri Altro has been assigned to be part of a drug task force, but she’s barely had time to settle into the position when an attempt is made on her life, luckily Walker is there to thwart it. Walker is a mystical sort of Vietnam War era Jason Bourne, that seems to have the ability to tell the future, as well as excellent fighting skills, and other seemingly magical abilities acquired from his adoptive Hmong family. The present situation with Altro is tied in with things that happened during the Vietnam War, and the stories of past and present were seamlessly woven into a great story about honor and family ties. I found the war flashbacks particularly compelling, and Walker was such an interesting character. Altro was a little harder to like, but she was very authentically painted, as a driven career woman. Great story!

The Valley Walker by T.W. Dittmer is one of the best stories I've read in a while. It has a paranormal touch, but of a different sort that drew me in from the first page.

Perhaps it has to do with my love for Southeast Asia and the knowledge that Mr. Dittmer was also there during a time of strife. Or the fact we both have a keen interest in the hill tribe- Hmong- people.

This story moves from Walker's life among the Hmong to Michigan where he protects Special Investigator Teri Altro from forces she does not understand, forces from Walker's old life.

The Valley Walker is such a powerful, well-written and grasping story I wasn't able to put it down until the end. It held me long after I finished reading.

Author T.W. Dittmer is an author of note and not one to be missed! The Valley Walker is a book you will want to read a feel the power of words.
