I don't care about the paint chipping. I'm in my gym to work. Seems like a silly thing to get pissed about. The hooks actually make the "lift offs" easier and less issues with the joint. I also bought the attachment and it works wonders!
I dropped a 405 squat mid rep and the cage didn't budge! I do pull-ups at my 255 pound body weight and the cage sits nicely with no sway. The other pic is my doing a 405 sumo with the pegs (which all the clips I received fit nicely) and the cage again sat perfectly still!
It came with 8 spring clips. These don't fit anything. The are too loose to clamp on to the weight pegs, the band pegs or my standard bar bell.
Things I don't like:
The finish on the main frame is great however the dark grey finish on the weight storage pegs and the safety bars is slowly scraping off. Paint chips/dust everywhere. The same finish is on the pull up bar.
The weight bar supports have metal debris inside them so they make a bit of noise/rattle when you move/carry them. Other than that the welds all look clean and strong.
One of the four weight bar supports is 1/3" long than the others. Not terrible. Noticeable when are doing bench press and looking up at a crooked bar.
Things I would change:
I would love to have more weight storage pegs. Maybe 2 or 4 more. As I'm doing different exercises/warming up I am constantly shifting the plates around and end up setting several on the floor.
The pull up bar is powder coated and has a good feeling to it, a bit coarse. All holes can be identified with numbers, stickers included. The J hooks have too much play for my taste but they are well built and powder coated too.
It took my around 30 min to get it assembled, very easy and straightforward.
I'm very happy with this purchase.
Very Solid - Once assembled this rack is super strong and sturday.
Pull up bar - The multi angle pull up bar has ramped up my back development like crazy. I went from not being able to do 1 pull up to now doing sets of 6 - 10 pull ups in just 6 months. My back is shredded now.
The options - This rack has so many options to make workouts customizable it WILL have you exceeding PR's... of course if you put in the work.
Rear weight storage pegs- when loaded with plates they can get in way of certain barbell exercises. I just removed them since I bought an external plate rack anyways.
Overall: I love this rack! With optiona lat attachment i am seeing All kinds of gains. Best addition to home gym ive ever made!!!
CONS: 1) No knurling on the pull up bar. The bar is solidly built but difficult to grip. 2) During flat bench, the barbell will hit weight plates being stored on the top pegs. 3) Olympic storage pegs would be a welcome addition.
Don't let the non-boutique name influence your decision. This is not a 'status symbol' but rather a highly functional and durable piece of gear -- this is a great power rack, especially for the money!
Really glad I went with this model over previous versions. Well worth the extra $$$. The only con I can think of is when adjusting the safety bars, they tend to get their black finish scrapped off... Not a major deal, but be aware that overtime the safety bars are going to get pretty scratched up.
Also, thanks a TON to reviewers of the previous Valor Fitness model for their tips on assembly. Saved me a lot of time and mistakes I'd have probably made.
