Weird. Odd. Bizarre. Billed as a “hilarious horror comedy,” Vamperifica is a low budget movie about the search for a reincarnated blood sucker in human form.
Two acolytes of a long deceased vampire king track their highness to this century but are chagrined to find that the human host for their king is a sarcastic-gay-wannabe actor (Martin Yurkovic as Carmen). He has no talent, few friends, but loads of enemies. His life consists of one long endless screed about his life. He bitches and moans with his best friend Tracey (Dreama Walker). He has strange nightmares and is stalked by the two vampires. They induct him into the vampire hall of fame and now his life is really-really complicated. But. On a happy note, he gets to kill the people who made his life so terrible. But! His only two friends are soon targeted by the two acolytes, who are loathed to allow him to keep human pets.
There’s a rape, loads of blood, people lose body parts, and Carmen gets to sing and dance.
As a comedy, it isn’t funny enough. As a horror flick, it fares slightly better. Mixing the two genres produces a shrill movie that does a disservice to everything holy and unholy. It doesn’t help that Carmen is played as a screaming stereotype and not in a good way (their use of the term “flamboyant” to describe Carmen is more than a little insulting). There are also definite plot problems. The acolytes are forever scolding Carmen for his indiscriminate killing because it could draw attention to them, and yet they do the same thing then up the ante with a mass killing on a grand scale. This movie could have used 17 more rewrites (and not by Martin Yurkovic who helped craft the story).

This movie was so bad that I actually enjoyed it. But be forewarned, if you can’t appreciate crap, look elsewhere for your entertainment.

Keep one thing in mind....I actually would give the 2.5 stars. the good things in this movie, well, there are 4 actually...Jeff Ward and Dreama Walker and the vampire kings best human friends and Creighton James and Bonnie Swencrinis and his vampire instructors. The story wasn't actually that bad, kind of a fun idea. BUT and here it comes the reason for this being pretty terrible. The screenplay and the story were done by the same person who also happens to have the lead as the vampire king, see a pattern. It should never be allowed. Bad actor, no, awful actor, no...possibly the very worst actor in the history of acting named Martin Yurkovic...please yank his SAG Card! he is described a flamboyant....not even close. Too over the top and offensive.

OK. Campy? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely!!!! Take it for what it is and just enjoy the bad jokes and poor acting. It's funny, suspenseful and just the right mix of good storyline to make this one of my all time favorite movies ever. I saw it on syfi channel and immediately looked for it on Amazon. I'm thrilled that I was able to find it and purchased it via digital download. This is the first movie that we watch on Halloween every year since. Give it a chance and you will understand.

The story is that a young man learns that he's a reincarnated vampire king. The story is flimsy at best and you can pretty much discard it. In fact, just about every effort to insert the premise behind why he's targeted to be turned into a vampire is kind of distracting and almost pointless. Ladies and gentlemen. Here's the real story: Young flamboyant man becomes a vampire. The rest of the movie is kind of just killing people.

I'm a fan of vampire movies so I thought I'd try it out. It's not what I expected, but I found it entertaining, though I feel like it missed it's mark. As I mentioned earlier the story is heavily flawed and and because of this, the movie is just held together by the main character. Martin Yurkovic plays Carmen, a failed actor who is "turned" by 2 vampires who knew him in a previous incarnation. His role is that of a flamboyant and mildly aggressive homosexual man who is besties with a girl and a straight guy. I feel like Martin turned a crappy character into something half entertaining, though I don't think I ever actually laughed. Most of my enjoyment was just watching his antics. Dark humor, at times almost slapstick.

Oh the actual movie was horrible. I think if the story was actually good, you'd notice the other actors, who were mostly terrible. 3 stars for originality, though. Plus there was no sparkly vampires or tortured souls. That was refreshing.

I honestly really enjoyed this movie. I caught part of it once on Chiller Channel, but wasn't able to see the whole thing. Thanks to Amazon, I was finally able to satisfy my burning curiosity! Very fun movie with good acting and a gratifying ending.

Haven't reviewed anything on here before, but just rented Vamperifica and really enjoyed it. I added it to my watchlist last night when browsing for horror movies and checked it out tonight. I laughed through practically the whole movie. The characters were all really likeable, especially Martin Yurkovic who plays the main character. If you're tired of seeing sparkly vampires and want to laugh and see some blood and language, I'd recommend it!
