That being said, it was a fun book and a quick read. It is a well-balanced mix of sex, personal conflict, and inter-family politics. Too much of any one of those ingredients would spoil the whole thing, but they keep one another in check quite well. Holly's aunt Celeste isn't your traditional vampire, nor is she a traditional lady. Celeste is able to sweep Holly out of her dumped-by-text-message funk, away from her codependent lifestyle, and teach her a few things about the family bloodline — all the while, keeping a step ahead of controlling family members and scheming politicos. It was a page-turning thrill to read. After reading this, you'll want your own vampiric fairy godmother.
This is a sheltered girl who, with the help of her Aunt Celeste, explores her own nature and carnality. In the end she finds out who she wants to be and is no longer afraid of herself and her desires.
What I loved: This author knows how to write things which made me laugh; one stood out "Holly hated her brain. It said disturbing things." I thought was fabulous--haven't we all wished our inner voices to silence?
Some of her characters were unique--Steven was one; a man with brains and sex appeal. You have to read to see what I mean--this guy was great!
My *favorite* was Aunt Celeste; reminiscent of starlets of bygone age, she was strong, amusing and knew how to use her assets.
In the end--Holly finds herself, and isn't that the most important thing?
Things I did not care for: There were times certain things didn't add up; or articles of clothing mysteriously vanished--but these are not show stoppers, I'm just a pest to even mention them.
What I wanted more of: What I wanted was more about Celeste-and her interactions. I wanted more about the story but something tells me there is more in the future.
My warnings: This is a sexually explicit story, with adult situations that some people may or may not care for. It's a fun book--but it's not for everyone.
Again--a fun, fast sexy read, and if that' what you're looking for this is the book for you.
Taking the urban fantasy genre and giving it a very sexy spin, the story is wonderfully fun ride through a world full of sexy, smart, and entertaining characters. I think anyone who reads this will find quite a few characters that they will instantly like or connect with even with the supernatural overtone.
I highly recommend this for anyone who is into urban fantasy, romance, or both!
