This, of course, also ends on a cliffhanger. It is important to read these in a series, as while I do think that you could read them as a stand alone, you would be completely lost. It's probably best recommended that you read the first one and then find yourself furiously flipping through the pages of the following books. The plot and story sort of seems to pick up and steam roll here, Tessa is being pulled so many ways, trying to hold her own, protect her friends and family, and save those that can't be saved. It's a big job for one person. Of course, the other characters, Cody and Jared have their own struggles, Cody trying to stay strong enough to get back while Jared has to face his own fears. This book is again a great book, with everything ratcheting up. I can't wait to read the fifth one!

The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the book seemed to replay a lot of the same scenarios over and over. I believe it was a little too wordy at times. I will buy the next book in the series just to see how it continues.

The deep, abiding love between Tessa's parents is strong and binding. There is suspense, action, love, and humour throughout the whole book. I did enjoy this book and will buy the next one to see how things develop, however I am finding the plot a bit dull, it is moving at a very slow pace with just the same things happening over & over again, there is no real progree to the whole story, just lots of fighting underground, how they are surviving with no food or drink is beyond me
