The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Seventh Season (BD)
Get ready for more epic thrills and romance in the seventh season of The Vampire Diaries. After saying an emotional goodbye to Elena Gilbert, some characters will recover while others falter and Bonnie, in particular, will explore her new lease on life. As Damon and Stefan’s mother, Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), tries to drive a wedge between the Salvatore brothers, hope remains that Stefan and Caroline’s love story is tough enough to survive. Damon will do whatever it takes to take down his mother and her band of Heretics, and Enzo will struggle with where his loyalties lie. Plus, with Mystic Falls in disarray and the arrival of the Heretics — who are set on retaliation and mayhem — the suspense will be stronger than ever. Guest stars this season include Tim Kang (The Mentalist), Justice Leak (Insurgent), Todd Lasance (Spartacus: War of the Damned), Elizabeth Blackmore (Evil Dead) and Scarlett Byrne (Harry Potter films).]]>

Enter now the siblings' mother Lily and her tiresome entourage of Heretics - only Valerie of interest, because of her past relationship with Stefan. Once this storyline has run its course, Rayna appears and the season perks up. A ruthless Hunter determined to destroy all vampires, she indeed proves a force to reckon with. Stefan and Damon are high on her list.
Devoted fans no doubt will find much to please. Others may feel the show seems increasingly desperate for worthy storylines. Action this time covers three years, with much flashing forward then back again. This can become very confusing, especially with plots complicated enough in the first place. (Despite being a "Groundhog Day" rip-off, Episode 10 proves one of the best.)
22 episodes. Helpful box set notes. Interesting bonuses include Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder describing their experience as a director (Paul Ep.21, Ian Ep 16). The Comic-Con feature is better than many: presenter less intrusive, panel smaller, the audience's question segment more smoothly handled.
The series remains cult viewing, largely because of its charismatic two leads. Some, though, may feel it increasingly lacks the impact of early seasons - time overdue either for far stronger scripts or to call a halt.
